So, the ongoing saga of Miss Celie, the liberated hen .....
Today I caught her squatting for George, and tonight, she decided she'd rather put up with a roo than stay out in the cold any longer - she went into the coop with everyone else at bedtime tonight.
She's acted like she wanted to the last couple of nights. I'd ask her if she wanted to go, and she would run away from the coop to the garage and try to sleep on Hubby's Kubota (which is a major no-no
) So, tonight I guess after being in that wind all day, she figured it'd be better to go in.
I'm really happy she changed her mind, because I was worried about her being out in the cold and wind and rain all the time. She's a hardy bird, but no one is THAT hardy.
I stopped at ACE hardware and got a roll of hardware cloth - I figure the extra can go into my stockpile, I'll use it up somewhere.
I plan to make a hardware cloth top for the playpen so the babies can hang in there all the time, instead of being put back into the cage at night. I bought the playpen for a brooder pen, so I may as well make it serviceable. (and nice, didn't want it to look ghetto with it inside the house - would be different if it were out in the coop or something.)
I got some Gorrilla tape to edge the hardware cloth with (cause last time I messed with hardware cloth, I kept snagging that big scar on my finger and making it bleed
)
I'll take a pic when I have it done - gonna work on it tonight, cause hubby will probably be firing up the woodstove, soon, and I'll need to open the door (and the cat has been dying to get into that room all day).
Let me know what ya all decide on the geese - like I said, I'll be happy with just a pair of Toulouse, so if ya want to re-work the numbers to fit that, go ahead.
