Okay, I'll take a White Chinese Goose or a pair of the Pilgrims. If their is that much difference in the shipping charge for 10 instead of 8 let me know. If not I'll take all three.

Well, all I really need is a pair, so if Chuck wants two birds, I'll just take a pair, and he can get two and that way we'll be on number.

I'm flexible.

It looks like the minimum shipping is $30, plus extra for the zone you are in. So since we are in zone 4, the extra would be either 7.70 or 9.80. That looks like it would be up to 16 geese, but I'm not sure of any of it!! I'm trying to get in touch with someone on the phone, it would be so much easier to talk to a live person to figure out how it works! But it doesn't seem like the shipping would be that much more for a few more birds.

If anyone else is interested in ordering goslings for March from metzer farms, just let me know! We could have our own community meet up and gosling pick up, all at the same time!

So, the ongoing saga of Miss Celie, the liberated hen .....

Today I caught her squatting for George, and tonight, she decided she'd rather put up with a roo than stay out in the cold any longer - she went into the coop with everyone else at bedtime tonight.

She's acted like she wanted to the last couple of nights. I'd ask her if she wanted to go, and she would run away from the coop to the garage and try to sleep on Hubby's Kubota (which is a major no-no

) So, tonight I guess after being in that wind all day, she figured it'd be better to go in.

I'm really happy she changed her mind, because I was worried about her being out in the cold and wind and rain all the time. She's a hardy bird, but no one is THAT hardy.

I stopped at ACE hardware and got a roll of hardware cloth - I figure the extra can go into my stockpile, I'll use it up somewhere.
I plan to make a hardware cloth top for the playpen so the babies can hang in there all the time, instead of being put back into the cage at night. I bought the playpen for a brooder pen, so I may as well make it serviceable. (and nice, didn't want it to look ghetto with it inside the house - would be different if it were out in the coop or something.)

I got some Gorrilla tape to edge the hardware cloth with (cause last time I messed with hardware cloth, I kept snagging that big scar on my finger and making it bleed

)

I'll take a pic when I have it done - gonna work on it tonight, cause hubby will probably be firing up the woodstove, soon, and I'll need to open the door (and the cat has been dying to get into that room all day).

Let me know what ya all decide on the geese - like I said, I'll be happy with just a pair of Toulouse, so if ya want to re-work the numbers to fit that, go ahead.

Cindy wants some of those sebastols (however ya spell it). Cindy would LOVE some geese - she has lots of room, and she simply LOVES to build more coops.....

right Cindy?

Oh, I forgot to tell everyone! Gertie hatched all 8 of the eggs that were under her!! I saw 3 babies with their heads sticking out. One is definitely a barred rock, has the spot on its head and everything! The other one was black looking, but I didn't see any spot. Then the other one was dark with a reddish face. They were all 3 standards, I guess the bantam chicks were still hiding. I hope she doesn't decide to take them off the nest too early in the morning! It is supposed to be COLD tomorrow!! I think I will go and move her and the babies into the dog cage in the barn.

Ok, so we went and moved Gertie and her bitties to the dog cage. She has 3 millies!!!

Plus there are 4 barred rocks (of course since there were 4 standard eggs!)
And then there is the other one

I'm not even sure which one it is, but I know there were 4 bantam eggs and 4 standard eggs. There are 3 millies and 5 black chicks? One of the black chicks that I saw earlier had a reddish face, and I thought it was a standard, but could be wrong. So any idea what mix of your bantams would make an almost black baby?

Ok, pics of my play pen brooder cage - with lid made out of 1/2 inch hardware cloth. The hardware cloth was strong enough not to dip in the middle, is holding nicely. I used 36 inch wide cloth, and it made a side to side edge of about two squares ( so one inch on the sides) then I made it about 3 inches on the ends that I cut.

now that it's done, I have it slid back into the corner by the closet door, out of the middle of the room.

I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Cindy doesn't have a pond for geese...They'd end up flying to the big one down the road and I don't think those folks would appreciate that...
