Kentucky people

When do you want them to be shipped? It doesn't have any specific dates, but it says they hatch from March/April until June/July.

I was thinking April, since it wouldn't be too cold then, and they would still have plenty of time to fatten up (for you!)

Yes, embdens are notorious biters!! Every goose I have been around was an embden, and with the exception of May's geese, they were all mean!

Ok, I sent it. Whenever I get my money, I will go ahead and send the payment, to make sure I have enough money. They said they would confirm the order in a few days, so I would think they'll tell me how much it is. I hope they let it go through, with 7 goslings. Judging by the email, they should. Woohooo!!!! Getting baby gooses in the spring!!

Well, the chicks are finally deciding they like the hay

.

They like having more room, too, and Chickaboom (the first chick I had hatched) LOVES being able to fly up the side when I walk into the room so I can pick it up.

I hope Chicka is a SHE so I can keep her. She was born a good 24 hours before all of the others, so since she was all alone and crying, I was holding her for awhile to help keep her company and keep her warm.

She was always running to the front of the cage when I would walk into the room, and now she can fly up the side and right up to me

. I picked her up and she settled onto my neck/shoulder and started to doze off. She's a sweety.

I need to find a "lid" for the playpen, though, to keep them in when I'm not there to watch em. (and to keep the cat out.)
I doubt the cat would mess with them, since she is so old - but ya never know.

I'll get more pics later.

Well that sucks....I just got an email from metzer and I can't order the gosling until February. Plus they said the minimum order is 8, but if I want less, there is a minimum order fee of $30 plus a $12 heat pack, so I guess we need to find someone else that wants to order from them! We have until February!!

Okay, I know that you can't mix turkeys and chickens, but can you mix geese and ducks with chickens or is that a no-no also?

Flowerpot brought over the bator today and the eggs are in it so if all goes well I will have baby silkies and baby mille fluer's around the 23 or 24th of the month!

If we can mix the two I'll go for the #8 goose, no ganders.

You mean as birds?? They can be mixed, but the geese and ducks make a mess of the water!! There are hardly (if any) diseases that ducks and geese get, and nothing I know of that they transmit from one to the other.

Check out metzer's site @ http://www.metzerfarms.com/ and let me know what kind you want. The ones with an asterick * are either straight run or pairs only, so you would either take your chances with what you get or choose another breed.

I will place the order as soon as I can in February, for hatch date of March 30, so let me know!!

And thanks for saving us a little bit of $$

FrChuck,
I just saw that you own 8 English budgies, I use to raise and show them in the early 80s.
My very favorite cage bird, do you ever raise them? One of the few thing s I remember is that I had to keep going back to green to keep the size.
The genetics gets so involved with color but was fun.
I have forgotten most of it.
What colors do you have?

Karen, Yes I have 4 pairs, I have a Cobalt Cock paired with a Cinnamon Sky Opaline Hen, A Dark Grey Cock paired with a Sky Blue Hen, A Sky Blue Cock paired with a Dark Grey Hen, and a Green Australian Pied Cock paired with a Cinnamon Light Green hen. I used to belong to the Great Western Budgie Club, and am now a member of both the ABS and BSA. If you showed in the 80"s you probably competed against Harlan Flora, Lou Smaldino and a couple of others. Unfortunately, Harlan passed away suddenly this past summer, quite unexpectedly. John Miles in TX acquired his flock.

Yes the greens do have the size but so do the blues, it is the rares that need to be watched. I had planned on going to the ABS National this year in California, however circumstances precluded this.

Maybe next year, I really want to get a couple of pairs of Lutinos to breed as well.
