My update for the day....

That mean old bitty PECKED me!! I was trying to get her feeder out to refill it, and she PECKED me!! It didn't hurt like I thought it would, but it sure scared the dickens out of me!! Doesn't she know she isn't supposed to bite the hand that feeds her??

I found the story about the "little big roo" and his 4 Ladies. I've been reading it. It has 34 chapters each about a page long.

Unfortunately I exited it without noting where it is.

Well I need to get out an take care of my outside flock. I just looked out the window and it has snowed! When did that happen.

Oh the problems of sleeping during the day. Think I'll warm up some oatmeal and give the chicks a warm treat today.

Sammy made oatmeal for himself today - 3 packets of instant, then decided he didn't want it

The chickens loved it, though, it was the good stuff with the pecans and raisins in it.

Jon had to be in to work early today (and tomorrow, too) so I didn't get much chance to be online this morning, then I hit the store while I was in town, and came home FROZEN, and been trying to warm up ever since. (plus, hubby had the computer by the time I got home

so I had to wait my turn.)

gonna go read my PM -

Sooooo... I won the nativity last night. Too bad I couldn't have snuck that wooden one in there, too, it needed some love - looked like someone left it out on their porch all winter and it got snowed and rained on. Well, maybe someone will buy it (or they'll post it again but cheaper) and put some oil into it or something.

My chickens (probably the guineas, more like) had the heat lamp knocked down and hanging about 2 inches from the wood shavings when I got back from the store this morning. Miss Celie was in there freaking out (I doubt she did it, though) so I twist tied it back onto the hook - won't come off so easy now. Luckily nothing caught fire, but it smelled mighty warm.

I hung a vinyl tablecloth onto the lattice thingy I got to block the door (from the donkeys). It seems to help with the breeze and keeping the warmth inside when the door is wide open for the layers to get in and out. If it works well, I'll replace it with a tarp.

It is so cold out that even Juju and Mojo were snuggling on me today

they are usually the ones who stand back and watch everyone else get some lovin'. Silly donkeys -- we've had them the longest (they were the wildest ones, though) you would think they would know by now we aren't keeping them for food or some silly thing. Juju was trying to eat my jacket zipper

The chickens are all hanging out down in the woods out of the breeze. Last night when I went out to turn off lights I heard something down in there moving - sounded like it was at least the size of a big coon. I took a flashlight and walked partway into the woods, and it left.

Well, gonna go clean house

Well I'm here too, just finished a plate of bacon and eggs and toast, and am still hungry!

Have let the furkids out twice and gave them their cookies.

Had a surprise yesterday when I went out to the coop to feed the pigeons. Once of my racer hens is setting on two eggs!

AND one of the neighbors' stupid cats was curled up on one of the chairs under the awning by the coop!

Luckily the cat got up and over the fence just as the dogs discovered he was there!

He sure moved fast!

This cat was raised with dogs that won't bother him, little does he realize that my dogs hate cats and consider them vermin and fair game!

Dogs are curled up on the bed buried under the blankets, I may join them. I've got the space heater sitting next to me on a stool, got my LJ's on under my sweats and I'm still freezing! I hope I'm not coming down with something!

I know what ya mean about being cold - I hate it when I get cold feet or some such, I just can't warm up at all after that. I felt kinda icky last week - thought I might be coming down with something too - chills, stiff and achey, but been fine today.

Hope ya shake it off, soon.

I have my flip-flops on. Not the toe split kind but the single strap kind that allows me to wear socks. I found out that just socks don't keep my feet as warm since every step I take is on cold floor. Now each step is on somewhat prewarmed sandals. Sandals was the word I was looking for instead of flip-flops. Flip-flops work too if I'm in a hurry and don't put socks on.

If it wern't for the young chicks my house would be even colder.

My outdoor chickens loved the warm oatmeal with scratch. I'll have to do that again on cold days.

It's about time to feed the humanguy, and bacon and eggs sounds really good. Thanks for the tip FrChuckW.

I won the three Barred rock eggs. I guess I shouldn't put away my bator just yet.

Talked to my brother in Missouri, They processed 6 roo's last week. He wants to process more but they are his son's. The three roos left are still fighting even tho they are in an 8 x 8 coop by themselves. They are all Delawares.

I think I will take them ½ of my NH's and some of my meat chickens. They have a shortage of hens, and he can smoke some of the meat chicken roos for me.

My sister-in-law wasn't too keen on having chickens and still isn't but as long as she doesn't have to deal with them she is okay. But my Nephew's wife just loves chickens. (she's a really intellegent woman too) She is the reason I gave them the Delawares last year. I think they need a bator this year... hummm....

Tell your brother he can come to my house and process all the roos he wants!! I have about 15 too many!! At least that! Most of the ones I hatched here were pullets, but I bought a hen with 15 chicks and a hen with 6 chicks this summer/fall....8 of the 15 were roos and 5 of the 6 were roos. Out of the 15 there is only 1 pullet left...

Well, we just got done stringing outside christmas lights....that was an ordeal to say the least. Dad decided to 'help' and it got heated, like most things do. And wouldn't you know it? The big lights I just got, the kind with the nightlight type bulbs in them? Well, they worked just fine before I put them up, got them all nice how I wanted, plugged them in and they didn't work
somad.gif
No loose bulbs or anything, so I guess those get to go back to wally world...

As far as the bators, I'm a glutton for punishment I guess. I have 5 pekin ducks and 4 chinese mixed goose eggs in one bator. I have 12 rouen and cayuga duck eggs coming next week, plus some more pekin ducks and chinese goose, and I just became an 'egg tester' for someone's jumbo brown cortunix eggs!! These are coming Monday from eastern KY, so they'll be here probably Tuesday...I must be crazy!!
