There's a Ky Traders thread on here... let me find the link.....

Oh, I see ya already found that one

nevermind.

I do think there is another Ky Peafowl thread, too. Not sure what the link for that one is, but it should be under "Chicks and Chickens buy sell trade", also.

In the spring the auctions usually have guinea chicks and adults - the adults go for quite a bit at the auctions, though. I got 10 guinea chicks last spring/summer, and gave half away to a friend, then sold these ones, so I basically got a pair of them (that I have left) for free. Two is MORE than enough, IMO

sometimes even Two is too many guineas. Not sure what the auction scene up by you is like, but down here, we have tons of auctions. Multiple auctions going every weekend all summer, usually. The best ones are the Amish School Auctions or the Consignment Auctions.

As for trading, we trade a lot around here, too

Cindy, Shelley and I are always swapping birds.

Oh, btw - not sure if anyone is near Glasgow at all, but they have "buy sell trade" days every other weekend all summer long over at a place right off the Parkway. It's called Chicky Business (there is a yahoo group you can sign up for that is just announcements on what days they run it.)

Scot over in Edmonton was supposed to have a "buy sell swap" thing setup at his business, but every time I have passed, I never saw anyone out there. But, Scot has lots of birds, so if you can get a hold of him he might have chicks in the spring of what ya want. I'll have to find his telephone number, though, since I cannot recall his business name. He has a big farm and has just about all sorts of animals and birds. I know he has turkeys and ducks and chickens, ostriches, bison, llamas, goats, - and Lord only knows what else that I didn't catch a glimpse of the last time I was there.

Coolness!!! I'm still debating on whether I have room to do quail or not.

I think that my meaty project may take up more time and space than I had planned

Provided I can find the silly birds nests, I should have keets this spring. I have a pair of buff guineas and a pair of buff dundottes, with an extra dundotte cock. Not sure how they are paired up though. There is a peafowl breeder in Campbellsville. I'll see if I can find the link for you.

So, when Roger came over for the goonies, I took him down to meet Mr. Speckles and his ladies

He was impressed by Mr. Speckles, to say the least. He also liked that light brahma hen that I've got in there.

The light Brahma, btw, has decided that she is Top Hen and was making sure she had the best roost for the night. She certainly is the biggest hen in there, so I imagine she sleeps wherever she darn well pleases

. I'll have to come up with a name for her, she is sort of funny to watch.

First she hopped up into the nest box (the hens all want to sleep there, not on the perch with Specks.) She went from one to the next, til she found one she liked. Then she wiggled and squirmed and adjusted the hay in there, til she was happy with that. Then she flipped herself over, as if she were sunning herself, to get the full effect (I guess to make sure it would be comfy if she tossed and turned in the night

) Then squiggled down some more into the hay and laid there looking at the other hens as if to say "Don't even think of sleeping here, this is MY spot". (Brahmas can look very intimidating when they want to

)

Yep, she definately has earned herself a name - just need to find one that fits her.

That's funny! They probably sleep in the nests cause dad's chicken house was not big enough for all the chickens. A lot of the hens slept in the 1 (yes, only one for 37 hens) nest box, just for lack of space. She probably likes the fact that there's clean hay or whatever in there, as opposed to mud and muck covered like it was here. I swear, someone needs to treat dad the way he treats his animals, maybe then he would see how cruel it is.

pop57~~I just candled the eggs you sent me. I did not do all of them, and there are a few that I checked that have pretty thick shells, but I did not see any that were clear, and I candled over half of them!

So I would say that you are safe to sell 'fertile' jumbo eggs!

Ok, so looks like I resort to talking to myself again!

I really need to do something about the chicks in the bedroom! When I went in there to candle on of them was on the side of the box sleeping! I'm thinking they are a bit too old to be in a brooder! I wonder if I should turn their light off at night? They don't need it for heat, that room stays at least 70 degrees in there. I don't remember how old these guys are, but they are at least 6 weeks old, if not older. I wonder if it would freak them out? I need to try turning the buttons light off as well. I need a cage for those guys, they are getting too big for that box they are in! Elbow to elbow, if ya know what I mean!
