Kentucky people

We have a few chickens for a short time before we moved, all young. Never had guineas, my friend does and I'm looking forward to the insect control!!! We now live on 5 acres of a large family farm Looking forward to eggs and fresh meat. Most of my chickens will be dual purpose. I welcome your thoughts and suggestions!!

Thanks Blessings
Tonya

Not tootin' my own horn but this is a pretty good article on Gineas. >> http://chickenreview.com/guinea-fowl Many people swear they will always have them and others swear they will never own them. I guess they are one of those creatures you either love

Have a great day!

I have 17 hens, Orph, Marans and a couple of RIR. Two are pullets who have not started laying yet.
Two of my hens required a lot of stitches when a neighbor's dog invaded my chicken yard. I don't think either of them will ever lay an egg again but that's OK. they have a home as long as they live.
Heat has not seemed to slow my hens down any in egg production. I get 8-10 eggs a day.
Have two Maran hens that are bent and determined to brood. They stay in "jail" a lot trying to break their brood cycle to break. No nest available, water bottom bath daily. As soon as I think they are ready to go back to the group, they will be OK for about 3 weeks, then go right back in the broody stage.

Your Marans are being such naughty girls! They love to set on those eggs. Cochins
are broody critters also. Some folks have something in jail all the time. Rabbit cages make great jails!

Looking to trade a 5 month old Easter Egger rooster for a hen or hatching eggs preferably feather legged breeds or Orpingtons. In the Elizabethtown Hardin Co area.

Do you have a pic of him? I'm in Hardinsburg (Breck county) and looking for a new rooster for my EE pen. But I am a picky butt. Lol
ETA I have a Cochin hen available

I see in your signature that you have Maran's. Do you have any for chickens or eggs for sell?

Sorry but the Maran's I have are only a few months old that I got from Dorothy Revnolds in Eastview look her up on Facebook she has quite a few and is reasonable on prices.

I am one of those ppl who swears they will never have guineas! My chicken friend has a bunch of them and I truly see no purpose in the bird besides they make the most loud awful screech I've ever heard! They are neat looking ill give them that but just the thought of having to hear that noise squawking at my bedroom window every single night keeping me awake is enough to keep me far far away! My friends also run free! He can't catch the little devils no matter what he tries! Oh and did I mention they poop everywhere???!! I do mean everywhere at his house! The roof, the car, the kids toys, the neighbors car, the windows on the house?!?, the porch! Etc Honestly, I really don't understand why people keep guineas? What's the positives about them?
