cool, I been trying to come up with names for them - not sure what to name them yet.

I keep going out to look at them and break their water up a little - I am fascinated by these little guys. As soon as I break the ice on the water it starts to skim over again - man is it cold out there!!

Ms. Lewis Rich :

They are really cute. so it's the girls that are the loud mouths?I love the color it looks like splash .

Just going by yesterday, the girl was louder than the boy was - although he gave it a good try once or twice on the way home in the truck

there'd be silence, then all of a sudden a LOUD quacking and noise
gig.gif
startled me the first time, then I was waiting for it, so I didn't jump after that when it happened.

Although they were quacking loudly and a Stevie Ray Vaughan song came on (Pride and Joy) and they shut right up - so I guess they got good taste in music, anyway

The dogs just went nuts barking, so I open the door, thinking some neighbor has stopped by or the mailman is here... nope.

I had three hens on my porch "knocking" on the door to be let inside
lau.gif
and the dogs went right through them, chickens went flying... the dogs ignored the chickens, they were looking to see who was knocking on the door.

The chickens, on the other hand, flew straight up and over the porch rail trying to get out of the way of the dogs who were running out to stand in the driveway and bark at the thin air.

stoopid dogs and chickens

Sorry I crashed out early last night, I went and snuggled with the furkids in bed after feeding the house birds and the chicks, they are now 5 weeks old and almost fully feathered out.

CSI was good last night, Wonder if they are gonna do a spin off with Grissom and Sara now down in Costa Rica?

Kitchen faucet is froze up again, but the bathroom is still running.
Just fed the pigeons and their waterers are all froze up, will have to thaw them out.

CW welcome to BYC and the thread, Having trouble keeping the heat up in the bators, but not much I can do about that at the moment . It is so cold! only supposed ot go down to 9 degrees tonight and then start warming up. I am not putting the babies out in this cold.

Even the dogs don't want to stay out. But at least the chickls are recognizing me now when they see me and are all cheeping at me.

Glad you got your ducks finally, hope it all works out!

I got my egg swap eggs today. So this makes 3 days in a row that I have had to go to town and pick up eggs!

My postman probably has me on speed dial by now!!

These are all large fowl mixed, so if they hatch they will be going to the sale. I feed enough large fowl mixes that I won't get anything for, and I have no use for them. I just am not a large fowl type of person. 8 of the eggs I got from Gatekeeper were welsummers...haven't decided if I'm going to keep those or not. I'm thinking not, but I'll have a while to decide. It would be kind of neat to have dark egg layers like that, but they are pretty big birds. Maybe I'll put them with the ameracaunas and get some olive eggs? We'll see

I am soooo mad at the Post Office I could scream.
My BLRW and Serama eggs were sent this week .
I knew my phone # was on both boxes to be PU At P.O.
I called last two morning seeing if they were there told no . I even went looking for the truck this morning because I just had a feeling they were on there even tho I had gave a note and called twice.
Well they rode on the truck in the back with no heat for 5 hours today. They are thawing now have not exploded yet but I candled and the insides look frozen,
One of the boxes even had the message to call high lighted in orange.
Well I feel better now that I got my rant out.
And how was your day?

They don't care, it's not their loss. The only reason mine calls me now is because he used to hang them from the mailbox. I had eggs come from DDD the week after Christmas, and I wasn't here when he came. He would have been here about an hour before we got back from town. Someone cut the bag off the mailbox and stole the eggs. So I guess he wants to keep his job. I had tried getting them to call me and they wouldn't. I even called them that day to see if the mailman had a package for me and they said no. I hope they work out ok for you. I have read a post on here about someone that incubated frozen eggs that were cracked, after fixing the cracks. They said all eggs hatched just fine. At least you know the insides didn't get shaken up if they weren't moving!

that your eggs are okay!

Ya wanna hear something funny? Dad's birds are all 'dual purpose' and under one year old. My birds are also under 1 year old, mostly. Today, I asked dad how many eggs he got. 4...that's right, 4...from 30+ RIR and SLW hens! You know how many I got from my bantams and the standards running around the yard?? 9...9!!!! How funny is that?? I got over twice as many eggs from half as many birds!!

Oh I love rubbing it in!

Ok, quick post....

First - I got a button egg today !!
lau.gif
I been looking the last few days, and didn't see one all day today, just came in from shutting everyone inside and there was an egg.

Second - I stopped in to Day & Day to talk to Julie when I took Jon to work. I asked her about the ducks they order (they get theirs through Mt. Healthy) She said I can order ducklings - however many or few I want, and it is the cost of the ducklings, no shipping, so I can get my Blue Swedes I want
big_smile.png
She said they also get some from local folks, and geese, too. Just give her my number, she said, and she'll call me when they come in and I can see if I want any of those.

Nifty, eh ?

gotta run, need to make dinner....

That's cool, I'll have to keep that in mind. Of course I'll still have to get my geese from metzer, but I'd like some more rouens. I wonder if mt healthy sexes them?

Just checked, they don't have rouens, so I guess I'll have to look elsewhere.
