Well folks, I have good news today!!
I finally have found some duck eggs!!
Well, Princess actually found them. Evidently she ate one, and brought the other to the house for later. Cris saw the one in the yard, so we went hunting for the nest. Hopefully they are all laying in the same spot, cause we did find it! There was one other shell in the nest, so I know there were 2 at least. I have 4 ducks and 6 drakes that are old enough, so I should be getting 4 eggs a day. These were both white, so I'm assuming they were both from the pekins. I also have a cayuga (black or grey eggs mostly) and a rouen (blue/green eggs), so I'm fairly certain it was the pekins. They are the oldest of the 4, so it doesn't surprise me.
A friend of dad's had given him an old fiberglass truck topper, so we are going to go and pick that up and turn it into a duck house, so hopefully I can find the eggs easier. I'm thinking I can get them locked up in there at night eventually, then just wait till 9-10 am to let them out.
I also have finally started getting jumbo quail eggs, don't remember if I mentioned that before. Only 1 is laying so far, but at least they have started! No egg today though
I also had 4 baby tuxedo coturnix quail hatch overnight/this morning, and 1 silkie/EE mix chick. I was hoping that one was pure silkie, but it has green legs and racing stripes
All the silkies are white, except for Brutus, and he is grey (looks black with birchen markings).
Plus, I think I have figured out the problems with my incubator. I believe the thermometer that I bought and checked is not as accurate as I thought. I put a different thermometer in there that I have used successfully before, and it was reading 2 degrees low. So I bumped up the temp, and we'll see if that helps
So, all in all, a fairly decent day.
