Kentucky people

Boy have I been busy today. At work even.
I built another chicken tractor/house. I keep calling it a tractor and they tell me it is not a tractor because it doesnt have an engine and wheels. I will try to get pixs tomorrow.
Just wanted to say hey before turning off.

My daughter (she is 10) and I are new here. We live in Lawrenceburg, Ky. Growing up my grandmother had chickens but there is so much I have forgotten. So I am hoping that my daughter and I can come here and ask questions when I can't remeber what comes next. LOL

Our family is made up of me, husband, two kids , 4 tennessee walking horses, 3 dogs,(bloodhound, jack russell/weener dog, and a jack russell). We trail ride and show. We also do 18th and 19th century reenacting.

My daughter just purchased her first chickens on Sunday. So we are well on our way. She has 21 four week old chickes. She lost one on Monday and tonight the man be bought from replaced it and gave her an extra. That was nice of him. There are 5 black giants, 5 amber-links, 5 ameracauna, and 6 buff brahmas. She will have more eggs than she knows what to do with. LOL

There are a lot of knowledgeable people on this site, feel free to ask away.

dave_Cash69 I haven't had very good luck on shipped chicken eggs this year, which is all I have done since last fall. On 'home grown' eggs, I used a still air incubator, set at about 100 degrees, with 35-45% humidity for incubation, days 1-18. After day 18, you stop turning the eggs, increase humidity to at least 55%, higher is better, but over 75% is bad. I don't know what else to say, if you have any ?'s just ask. Unfortunately, I'm a bit strapped for cash right now, but if you would want to buy some eggs, I don't charge much, depending on what kind you want

Just a few pics of my two pullets I kept out of the January hatch - Gump is only in one pic - she was camera shy today. Mostly this is Fluffy - I took the pics to show someone on another thread, and thought I'd share em with you all. Fluffy is so much prettier in person than the pics show....

eta - in the second pic you can see Gump's twisted toe. still doesn't bother her at all getting around, just looks weird.

Hey Meri, was her toe like that when she hatched, or did it turn like that after? I have read on here that if it is after the hatch when their toes do that, it can be caused by a vitamin defficiency. You can give her some of that vit-a-sol drops and see if that helps. Couldn't hurt.

I don't recall if it hatched that way or not - the vitamins wouldn't hurt her for sure - I'll put some in theri water, or the kick'n chicken on their food next time I feed and water.

I'm gonna go watch The Dark Ages (on History Channel)
