Kentucky people

Ms. Lewis Rich :

Sune42 Welcome!
What type of chickens do you have?
We have a nice swap coming up in May. I am taking a group of mine if it does not fall on same Sat. as Kentuckiana show.
Nice to have someone in my neck of the woods.
Again welcome,
Karen

I don't have any yet. Just got done checking with Ludlow's city building to see if I can have them. So now I am deciding on breed and looking at coop designs. I would love to know a little more about that swap. Do I have to swap, or can you buy too?

Thanks to all for the welcomes!

Well I hooked up with Flowerpot today, and we tried to get in touch with the guy that had the dog run for sale, kept getting the answering machine. So we went to Orscheln's in Corydon instead. I wound up getting two 13 lb hanging feeders, some scratch grains, some oyster shell, and some non medicated chick starter and some fencing stakes. They only had some rock x chicks and a few straight run buff orpingtons. They get their chick order in tomorrow.

Went back to her house, met her husband, and I picked up her three parakeets, and some two week old pullets that she had got. I got some EE, RIR, Buff orps and a polish chick that she wasn't sure if it was a pullet or a roo. The polish was hatched from her own birds. I hope it's a girl!

Yeah, that's what we decided to do - can't take the ducks, but we can take some chicks and maybe thin the herd.

I just spent an hour tonight, cleaning brooders and poopy butts (had maybe 15 or 16 who got pasty butt a little.)

Ever try to move 110 chicks out of a brooder to clean it? it isn't fun

they kept jumping out of the box I was putting them into - I hope they all got back in the brooder.

did the playpen, the bin, the water tank, and the cage - then scrubbed my hands for 15 minutes trying to get clean

so, Jon has to work, but I'll be there about 4 oclock or shortly after.

Usually white rocks are all white - maybe the other is a Delaware? With my mutt babies, they are born white and get the wing bars first, then the head/neck color and tail color. Both Dellies and Brahmas are columbian pattern, but the more brahma looking chicks usually have some dark on them at hatch - the ones that look more Dellie are all white when they're hatched.

I think it is a Delaware. TSC said they were all white rocks, but what do they know.

Someone else posted on my thread in the breeds and gender section and mentioned Delawares, so I looked them up and found a picture that looks just like that chicks wings. How long do you think it will be before I can tell if the Delaware and the White Rock are pullets or roos? They seem to be growing their feathers pretty fast, and they both have yellow tiny combs.

The more I look at those reddish chicks, the more I don't believe they're RIR (I could be proven wrong when they get bigger) but for now I'm gonna keep them and see what they feather out like.

Did you still want some Barred Rocks? or do you just want the banty ones?

I'm bringing mostly the white rocks, cause I have so many of them, but I'll bring some barred rocks, too, just for variety.

I figure to sell them 2 bucks each or 10 chicks for 15 bucks - that way however they sell I'll make a profit. I'll probably bring along about 40 of them.

Nah, I would like some, but I really need to stick with bantams. I really have no use for large breed chickens, so the ones I have are going too. Kinda stinks though, cause they are pretty. Hopefully I'll get a good hatch from these eggs!

I figured you just popped in and out like you did yesterday!

So you are going to Sano tomorrow then? I don't think I'll be bringing everyone that I had listed before. I hate to put them in a cage and leave them there all day

Maybe I'll just wait till next week at Liberty to take them, at least then it starts in the morning. But it's also a type of 'take what you get' atmosphere. At least at Sano, I could be picky on what I get for my birds....what to do, what to do.....

Dellies feather out really fast, I can usually tell by a week old, cause I hatch out so many of them. But you can tell by two or three weeks old, easily - the roos combs will be noticably larger than the girl's combs. The boys combs (I mean) will go further up onto the head, and the girls will be shorter - not as far up the head crest.

I'll get some pics of my mutt babies to show ya.
