had a query on the ducks already - someone wants a pair, but wonders if they can meet me or have me bring them to Campbellesville. I could do that, if I'm going to lowes or tsc, so I said to let me know. Hope I find homes for all of them. I need the space and the feed for other stuff.

I keep the feed in the top coop, so when I am getting some in a pail to take to everyone else, I feed the top coop first, but half of them still will be eating out of the pail while I'm filling it, so it gets dumped on their heads - they are such weird chickens, I love brahmas

Wow! Then I'm doing good! I have way more chickens than you do!

I think I'm going to make tractors for the millies and mottleds. I seem to have lost my one and only red pyle hen, so I probably won't be keeping the roo. Or the white OEGB roo either, there is a guy at Sano that wants him, or did anyway. I'm not sure if I'll even keep that BTW jap pair I bought, I can't find anymore, not like I'd have the $$ for them if I did. So it looks like I'll have millies and silkies, and maybe mottleds. Not sure if I'll keep them, since the stupid birds are egg eaters

I might try to get them to not eat their eggs first, and see how that goes. I'll probably just leave the silkies to free range, they are super cute, and I'd hate to pen them up!

I'm gonna make a 'coop' for the quail, I think, though I might just make pens for them, or tractors even. I don't know if I'm gonna keep the golden lakenvelder I have or not. Those eggs are pretty expensive, and there is no one in this area that has them that I know of. I'll definitely be keeping my ameraucana though, even if I do only have one. I'm pretty sure she is a girl so she will still lay blue eggs! And those eggs aren't as expensive as the lakenvelders are. Idk, I still need to figure out what I have and what I need!

We're gonna turn part of the waterfowl pen into a run for the lower coop - so I can put my dellies down there, and any overflow. I'll still have room for the ducks, since the geese will free range all day and the ducks will be the only ones in there - which is why I need to cut back on the ducks.

I don't think there would be a pen big enough for ducks! I have the young ones in a pen and the adults free range. The young ones fencing has to be moved every week or they completely kill the grass! Now granted, it's not that big of a cage, but it is not that small either!

there isn't any grass down there right now, I burned off the briars and the scrubby stuff. There is a little coming up, but I planned on planting some stuff for them to hide in and maybe throw out treats every day or two for them.

If they ever stop being freaks I'll let them out to free range sometimes, too. Right now if they got out I'd never get them back in.

Toby doesn't bother the call ducks I have left - but I'll bet he'd mess with the swedish ducks - cause they make a lot of noise and freak out easily.

He tried to mess with Benny the other day and Benny backed him down

Quail are probably the easiest birds to hatch! At least that's how it seems to me! I have a heck of a time hatching chicken eggs right now! I don't know about these duck eggs of mine, first time for them. So far, there are 6 that have been in there for 10 days, and all 6 of them are developing. I haven't really checked the other ones yet, they've only been set for 3 days. Not that it would be impossible to tell, I just haven't bothered yet.

I was supposed to get some lakenvelder eggs sent to me last week, come to think of it. I got some eggs from someone a month or so ago, and out of 22 eggs only like 4 developed. None of them hatched. They sent me replacement eggs, one of which hatched. It was supposed to be a GL, turns out to be a buttercup. And, on top of all that, I think it's a roo

(do you still want it Chuck?

) So the person told me they would send me a few lakenvelder eggs to make up for it, like 4 or 5, middle of last week. If they did, I haven't gotten them, nor have I heard anything else about them.

Dad's pups are starting to chase the chickens and ducks. One of them went after dad's light brahma mix pullet that he took to Sano the other day? She was the only one of his that didn't sell. Anyway, one of the pups decided to go after her and got pecked on the nose!

It was pretty funny! The silly ducks just run bloody murder away from them.

If they would stand up to the pups, the pups would probably leave them alone!

I only set the few that one time, and I set them wrong, so it was probably my own fault they didn't hatch - I've been doing chicken and such more than anything else. The ducks I've set almost every egg I've gotten out of them (too bad I lost that batch of 10 under that broody.)
