I'm thinking that in this weather, even if they are only a month old by then, they should be fine.

I have month old chicks out in the coop right now, Cindy - they are doing fine.

eta - no heat lamp or anything on them.

I am short on Barred Rocks - but for Cindy - yeah, you can get one

Anyone else - sorry I'm hoarding BR's at the moment

If BC hadn't of integrated and started to fit in so well, I'd let ya have her - but I think it would traumatize the poor baby if she was moved again. She is so sensitive sometimes!! She even hangs out with Miss Celie - the anti-social hen!! I'm amazed Miss Celie likes her so well (since she doesn't like any other chicken much) - maybe it's a BR thing

. But, I have a pullet that'll be about 4 months old by the time ya get here to take her home with ya.

I'll save the BA pullets for your friend, too. I'll just move them out of the brooder coop into the other coop (with my keepers). I have (I think) three of those - maybe four.
Plus I have lots of pretty mutts, if they want more than the BA.

Other than that, I am about plumb out of pure breds for sale. (Unless we're talking cockerels

still have a few of those). Oh, I do have some Columbian Rocks, though (both pullet and cockerel) - they're about two months old right now. (and I have those Golden Comet pullets.)

I think that once I get the BR flock going, I may try to coax BC into joining them - since her Mama and Daddy were so beautiful, I'd love to get some pure bred babies out of her. (she is lovely - can't wait til ya see her now since she started laying - she is so fat and dark and her pattern is wonderful.)

Well, I'm off to Wally World this morning - need diet coke and toilet paper - that staples of life

Marianne and Bill aren't picky about breeds, they just LOVE chickens period...Doesn't matter what kind. If I'm not wrong I think they ended up with 3 actual pairs from the total of chickens I got them from Shelley.
Thanks for holding the babies for us. Cortni was excited, Layne was worried he won't get a dog now...BTW Shelley Ron may still let him bring the girly home one of our trips, but if you find a home before that I won't be hurt about it...

Oh, and Cindy, since you're leaving on vacation, if ya need someone to get them for ya and brood them until then (if Sydney can't keep them that long) I'll get em and hang onto them here for ya.

I've always got chicks - I can just stick them/it into a brooder bin with someone else.

Just let me know what you two work out.

eta - that will give me an excuse to go back over for those three buff orp babies she has

Oh good that's great to know, thanks, I was kinda worried about finding what I want and them being too young. You saw my coop it gets good and warm anyway with the angle of the front window. I'll have to stick the ladder back in against the perch I guess...Good thing you didn't take the ladder huh. I think instead of getting a waterer this time I'm just going to buy one of those black rubber bowls for now...It worked well as an extra last time and easier to dump and refill in the winter. I can just set it on a block in the coop in winter or get one of those freeze proof bowls that don't need electricity. I'm gonna use pie pans for feeders. I'm so creative huh. Not gonna get into the expense again, although still gonna fill them a medicine bin again. Still have a can for feed, whoot! Gonna have to go back there and see what else is left, clean out the old shavings, repair the fence where I cut it to get that doghouse out for you, hmmm what else...

I'm soooo excited to get my 3 hens...hehe!

When I put fancy dishes outside for the free-rangers, they always drink out of the yucky duck pool, anyway

If ya just got three hens (for now

) then simple is probably best. Now, when ya get back up to ten or twelve.... we'll go shopping

Thanks for the offer...If that is how we work it out then I'll bring you some feed to make it up as before...Probably bring some anyway for holding the other birdies for me. You know me...

It isn't a problem - and she is closer to me than Shelley is.
Plus, like I said, she has these 3 one week old buff orp chicks I almost bought the other day... didn't bring extra cash with me, though.... Hubby said go ahead and get them - so I'll make a trip for them, anyway.

(she's barely 12 miles from my house - that's like driving in to town to Walmart for me
big_smile.png
)

eta ... and maybe I'll grab another baby or two.... just to add to the free range flock - gotta have yard candy
