Kentucky people

Can't wait to get the girlies. We are going to paint the coop when we get back... Cortni wants to paint it sunflower yellow on the inside and I'm gonna use the red barn paint for the outside... She also wants to make different colored splats over the yellow(the chickens are gonna have nightmares.

I had a bathroom like that once - (Holy 70's Batman!!) - it was green plaid with big yellow daisies on it. Oh, and it had PINK fixtures.

I made hubby paint it for me - but you could still see the pattern a little through the paint.

But, at least with splats on the inside, it'll be harder to tell if they are paint or poo

set up fee is $5 in Shepherdsville...... We will be there with some BLRW and maybe a few call ducks.

With or without Flowerpot, me and the old grocery getter will be there. I drive an 83 Chevy Caprice Estate Wagon, with BYC Bumper stickers plastered all over the tailgate. I'll have my beige MinPin hat on. Looking forward to meeting another fellow BYCer.

I'll be looking for two or three good homer hens, and a white silkie pullet.

I am going tomorrow 6/6/09. It goes on til 12:00? So if I get their at 9:00 with about a dozen pigeons to sell I can still set up?

Well, after wrangling chickens, and caging them up (and seeing what I really had) I think I'm gonna try to get more out of them.

The game mixes look really nice, and I found another "other" pullet that matches the "other" group, so that group has five pullets (pol) and a roo - all the same breed, but dang if I know what. I got those from that hatchery mix, I believe - maybe Amberlinks? never seen one, so I'm not sure what an Amberlink looks like. They are speckled with amber/buff, black speckles and a white base. Some have more black speckles, some have more amber speckles.

I think most of the columbian rocks I caught are pullets. I also have the usual suspects (cockerels) that are extras, but a couple of those are pure breds, too (a BA, a RIR and a Brahma).

I got the light brahma at Day & Day - I would keep him for my roo - but the little Bast.... ummm... precious little thing bit me, and he is mean - so he goes. I have other younger (prettier) brahma roos to choose from.

I let the call ducks out for the day, since Croney isn't gonna get to go to Sano - I'll just hang onto them until she can get em - they aren't a problem, and they are doing fine, here. The two that I had in the duck pen by themselves were stressing themselves something fierce - poor babies. The smaller babies are still in the coop with the other smaller babies, so they were ok.

So...... I just need to go get hubby out from under the hay mower (he is changing blades) and get him to help me load cages into the truck.

Well as far as I know you will be able to still set up, I don't know who does the collection of the $5.00 set-up fee though. There were still people there when I was there last Saturday, and the people were arriving with the large livestock for the auction part.

To catch everyone up on the happenings here around Casa Lobo>

One of my neighbors came over and helped me put the sheathing on the pigeon loft Saturday. I got the door on and the windows covered with hardware cloth. Cut out the two popholes into the temporary flight and finally got all the pigeons out of the chicken area. They are finally settling in and investigating the nests and the flight.

I got to use my table saw yesterday ripping down 2 x 4's to make the frames for the new rabbit hutches. Built the frames and started on the first one and ran out of wire. So off to Home Depot and got some more wire, only to find out it was 2 inches too short width wise. Took it back and got 36" width wire.

I spent part of the day finishing the first of two new rabbit hutches for the babies. They are now 6 weeks old, and I pulled all 4 from the doe and put them in the new completed cage. I have the frame built for the other cage, just need to get the wire and hinges for the lid. And hopefully I will be able to seperate the boys from the girls before anything happens.

Turns out the stray puppy that the neighbors found belonged to a family living in the apartments across the street. They didn't want her anymore so someone just turned her loose. She is house trained at least and is another shadow of Daddy. Her name is Cookie, and she is trying to establish herself as top dog over the other six. The only one she doesn't mess with is Sasha, the oldest, who will definitely put her in her place.

Gonna try and get the outside of the loft painted tomorrow and get some measurements for the fencing for the front yard amongst other things.

The get together sounds like fun and I'd like to attend as well, I'll just need directions to get there.

Have any of you observed your younger pullets playing tag with each other? My 2 RIR and 2 BO were sitting on a perch in the run today when one of the rainbow layers came up and gave one of them a peck in the butt then ran off, and keep it up until one of the ones on the perch got off and gave chase. I was cracking up watching them.

I am now a proud chicken owner!

I brought home 1 astrolorp, 1 golden comet and 1 barred rock. I must have walked 20 miles around Lucasville trying to find my babies. I felt really bad for some of them, their feet were horrible and being picked to death by the others. It was sad.

I also managed to find two great pyreneese puppies. Sadly, they are for my sister in law. I think it will work out though. I get to enjoy the dogs, she gets to feed them! lol

I am still looking for easter eggers, marans, and something to lay a white egg. I will then consider my flock complete! lol

Anconas lay white eggs...I had one and she was polite but kind of standoffish...When you caught her she'd relax in your arms, but catching her was the trick. She pretty much did her own thing. Flew the coop in the morning and stayed out most of the day other than to lay her egg. Then she'd fly in at night to go to bed.

Great to have you on board!!!!! I used to have several different breeds bantam and large fowl, they were such fun, but had to liquidate my flock due to family issues...Now hubby said I can have some hens so I am getting a few from Meri(Mojo Chick'n), and an EE from Shelley(Shelleyd2008) and a few from another friend of ours.
