Just remember she'll be fertilized by the RIR bantam for about a month. I've had my girls for about a month now and BCs eggs are finally nonfertile in the last few days.

Was wondering if someone could possibly tell me what this situation with my chickens are and what causes it and how to stop the spread of it.
The chickens will be fine one day and the next they are walking like they have a broken leg or drunk or something. Real staggery, spraddle-legged and open their mouths and shake their heads like they are not breathing enough air. We give them a shot of Tylan 50 and by the next day they are much better and 2 days later they are fine. We haven't lost one yet, but was wanting to try to find out what may be going on. We have had like 3 do this same exact thing and we have several who are in with these guys and they are fine. It is like it takes a week for the next one to catch whatever it may be. I would appreciate any help anyone can give as I am really confused as to what may be going on with these guys. Thanks!

I've read a lot of posts with those symptoms - something has been going around. I think it's something Hatchery born, cause most of the posts are from folks who got hatchery chicks and they got to a certain age and that is what happened. Not sure which hatchery (or maybe it is more than one, if they get eggs from the same sources).

When my Brahmas and Delawares died, they were mostly "failure to thrive" but some of the brahmas had the staggering thing going on, too. No snot, no foul smells, nothing else wrong, just staggering. It also didn't pass to any other birds, it seemed to be contained to all of the ones from the same hatchery. And - some of those didn't get it, the bigger ones never got the staggering thing (some were bigger and normal sized, some were very very small).

I had them in with my other birds, and no other birds got whatever it was. I am thinking what mine had was genetic - something went wrong in their parent birds that got passed on. Major Inbreeding perhaps? I know the demand for chicks has been higher the last two years, so maybe the folks supplying the hatcheries with eggs are using birds that are way too inbred? Just a guess.

Well, Sano was HOT!! I wish it had stayed overcast

Happily Joe showed up and I gave him the duck and left to come home where it is slightly cooler.

Pokey (the calf with milk scours) is all better - he was VERY happy to see his bottle tonight. He ate a full bottle this morning, but not very quickly, but tonight he was extremely hungry. All the calves have names now, Pokey is the one I was thinking of naming Tbone

Pokey fits him better. I'll save Tbone for another calf. I ought to be getting another one any day now.

Michelle still has not had that baby, but she is getting really Bitshee - she kicked poor Maggie in the head tonight at dinner, just because Maggie walked behind her.

Oh, and I'm getting a bunch of chickens tomorrow.

like I need more chickens, but these are all going to the auction or to Liberty - I can't pass on these. (there maybe Silkies involved if anyone is interested

I know he had a blue silkie roo that Debbie is keeping, cause hers died and his roo is her roo's son). I have no idea how many or what they are, I'll be seeing them for the first time when I go pick them up.

I got all of THREE eggs today! THREE!!!!! dang chickens. I got two of those from the pullet coop! and one from Mr. Speckles's coop. They don't look like they are moulting, so I have no idea what their problem is. I'm gonna try mixing in some Flock Raiser and some Kickin' Chicken with their 16% feed and see if that kicks them into gear.

well, I'll be here tomorrow after the gun show -

Shelley and I are going to the Chickenstock up in Indy tomorrow, so don't look for us to be on until way late, Flowerpot was going to go too, but I haven't heard from her definitely. I know she started a new job recently, so she may have to work.

Yes I did, and unless I get rid of all my other birds, much as I want another silkie pullet, I don't dare get another bird. My silkies are crowded now as it is.

I need to move to a bigger place out in the country!
