Well, I decided to just let everyone (except Mr. Speckles's coop) out for the day.
The babies in the brooder coop are having a blast, and the orps and BR and Mr. Feathers are having a fun time, too. A couple of the orp girls found out what an electric fence is, and they all discovered that Blackjack (the donkey) likes to tease chickens by walking slowly but purposefully towards them with his head down (he doesn't hurt them, just likes to watch them freak out
)
Bubba discovered that you don't mess with a broody hen with babies, and they all discovered that the geese can be uppity if ya don't get out of their way. Mr. Feathers tried to take on the broody hen, also, but he gave way rather quickly
All she had to do was growl a few times, puff up her hackles and hit him once in the chest with her feet and he gave in. (it took Bubba far longer to figure out that he would not win the stand-off
I guess we know who's the slow one of the bunch.)
Jr's baby (now a POL Pullet) has Jr's mama instinct - all of the babies in the brooder coop seem to be hers (
all 150 of them). She was showing them where to scratch, and when they'd get lost (around the corner of the coop) and cry she'd run and herd them back to the door. I already have a Mama (donkey) and a Nana (cochin) so I guess she'll have to be Little Mama or Nanny Bird (I had considered naming her Mammy, but thought that might be awkward
) . She even picked up a piece of food and dropped it in front of some of them
. I guess she gets to stay, she can just be the Little Mama of the brooder coop.
Hmm... maybe Auntie
something I'll come up with a good name for her, just give me a day or two.
I just hope they all go into their respective coops tonight and I don't have to shuffle them around
