Hello KY people... I havent been on this thread in forever! Our chickens are 26 weeks now, we have been getting 22 eggs a day for the past 3 days! Thinking I need to try to start selling some eggs soon, lol. Whenever this kids say I'm hungry, I say eat some eggs! Glad we all love eggs! We have a broody BO, she has 11 eggs under her and Wed. will be 2 weeks she been on the nest! Cant wait to see her babies........

shelleyd2008 - Thanks... we have 30 girls. I think alot of our BO's want to be broody... when I went in today to collect some eggs there was like 7 setting and they have that stare and they did not want me to take their eggs! But I cant let them all hatch eggs, lol I'm going to go out in a bit and see if they are still setting........

I just came back from the coop... collect 12 eggs/18 so far today and there was 8 girls thinking they going broody and they were not happy with me taking their eggs... poor things Then theres my poor lil bantam chipmunk running around trying to find a good spot to lay her egg... the big meanies wont let her in the nest boxes right now and shes our smallest chicken.

Well I found what were the remains of my missing barred rock pullet yesterday when I went out to feed everyone. 1 foot and part of the back. Gross! She was the one that went broody on me.

Hopefully I won't lose any more to whatever it was that got her. In the meantime, am getting ready for the move to the country slowly but surely. Getting boxes packed and stacked, havve to see about renting a small truck to haul all them and the aquariums and the birds and the pigeons and chickens and rabbits.

One of my does kindled during the storms Sunday night and lost all three of her babies.

So far only one silkie baby has hatched, looks to be a partridge or mottled. Definitely have at least one black roo, heard him trying to crow finally the other day. He is just finding his voice, so his crow is still weak, cute but weak.

We lost our 1st chicken yesterday, it was sad! I let the chickens out of their run to free ranging as usual, a bit later my husband heard them all going crazy, he went out to check on them and there was a dog out there casing them and it had killed a BO pullet!!! He threw a stick at the dog and chased it away, it took off down the road.... I'm not going to let them free range and see if that stinking dog comes back... makes me soooo mad! People need to keep their dogs in their own yards! We live in the country, so I dont know whos dog it is.......

FrChuckW - Thats sad, hope nothing happens to the rest of them... good luck with moving. Congratulations on the silkie hatching.

We got some new neighbors, and a few days later I got my first visit from the city code enforcement people

Now they (the city and who ever is complaining) won't leave me alone. I'm sooo frustrated. They don't even seem to know the codes they are supposed to be enforcing.

Does anyone have any good advice? I don't know what to do, I just want them to leave me in peace! The code enforcers are rude and keep showing up over and over again and barging in to my yard.

Well that sucks! Sorry I'm no help.........

Do any of you Kentucky people sell your eggs? If so, how much and what are the rules... I was going to put a sign up in my front yard, but dont want to break any rules.

I sell mine, but I don't know what the rules are. I'm sure there are rules. I wouldn't put a sign in your yard, unless you live in the country? Otherwise you might attract code enforcers, and believe me...you don't want to.

I sell mine to a lady who resells them along with raw milk and some other farm things. I sell them for $2 a dozen.

I know we were ok and we have about 80 birds (need to send some roos to freezer camp)and get about 175 eggs a week. Hope this helps! Once people know you have eggs you will have to make sure you keep some for yourself! I almost always have people waiting for eggs!
