Yeah you need to start looking for alternative things to rid yourselves of them that won't hurt the chickens. They could start coming into the house as close as the barn is, if you don't.

They are already coming in the house, the bathroom has the constant smell of urine from them being under the tub

Dad brought Princess in earlier cause he could hear some gnawing in his huge pile of crap in the livingroom. I guess he saw 2, but she was only able to get one.

Put a bowl of a skunk beer or even some kind of pop out. Rats and mice love this stuff but cannot burp. They literally explode on the inside. It worked for me.

Antifreeze works well for the rat problem too. We used to cut up egg cartons and fill the individual cups with it. The best soulution I have found from experience is a live rat trap. Just fill the bait cup with some feed of some sort and they push open a weighted door to get in, which then closes behind them, reseting the trap for the next sucker. Then when it's full, just "dispose" of them. Works succesfully time after time. Those gnasty varmints will destroy your feed storage and they're death on chicks.

The feed is stored in metal trash cans, so no problem there. But we've lost some chicks to them, both of Cris's parlor roller pigeons are gone

, and they've started on the other pigeons and the quail.

I've asked this question many times before, and can't ever get an answer. If I put soda or instant mashed potato flakes out for the rats, and the chickens get into it, will it hurt the chickens??

Shelley - you've got guineas hatching

so far two are out (more pips, though) one is white and one is brown and white (pied, I'm assuming).

No action on the duck egg, yet, but I don't think they are really due until tomorrow, anyway.

I'll keep ya updated.

Yay!! Some more crazy, stinky guineas to keep in the house too long!

I hope that duck hatches, I've got only one duckling, and it needs it's own box! It is getting everything wet! I went to Sano last week hoping that someone would have ducklings, of course not!!
rant.gif
If I hadn't been looking for them, everyone would have had some, but since I wanted one, they were no where to be found
gig.gif

ETA: I need another duckling for this one, so it can have a buddy. My goose didn't have a buddy when it hatched (the embden), which is why I think it stays at the house. It doesn't realize it is a water bird, it must think it's a dog or something! That goose is getting brave, it tried to bite Princess the other day. I saw it hissing at her today, and reminded it that she bites back (as opposed to all the other animals that goose decides to bite

) One of these days, it will bite off more than it can chew, then I guess we'll be having goose for dinner, cause I know Princess will kill it

Most of us are veterans

you just have to jump in and get to know everyone. If you are unsure of what's going on [or who Midget (my dad's beagle), Amy (cthrash1's dearly departed sheltie), Daisy (cthrash1's beagle mix she got from my dad), Camille (Mojo Chick'n's cow), etc. is], just ask, we aren't shy

Well, I rearranged the quail room last night, and am happy to report there were no new deaths this morning!!
celebrate.gif
The quail even had feed in their feeders, so the mice and rats weren't even able to get in their cages!
wee.gif
I hung the cages from chains, so they are at least 6" from the wall, do you think that's far enough?

Sydney has ducklings

if ya don't mind muscoveys. I'd take some, if I didn't have tiny ducks (scoveys get too big).
