HI,
Are you in city limits?

If not then you'll just need to butter up the neighbors by bringing them some fresh eggs... Otherwise if so, I couldn't find anything online on your city ordinances.

I am in city limits. My next door neighbors are an abonanded railroad and nextdoor is a rental place that no one as rented in a long time. I think i will jsut do it and when or if someone says anything i can move them to my farm less than a mile down the road. I would just rather have them in the back yard.

I'll try to upload an older pic of him from when they first got him... I don't know what the mix is but they are expensive and they aren't supposed to shed. But their hair can get tangled and matted so they do need regular grooming.

Is it a lhasa apso or a shih tzu? That's what it looks like kind of, very cute! Poodles don't shed either, you need one of those....a big one, that's one of my dream dogs, they are so soft

Sorry to butt in!
Just a suggestion, but see if you can find local riding stables (that take good care of their horses). There are usually horses there that are broke, broke, broke----anyone can ride them. The best part is that you can go there and test ride them on the trials and they should have a good selection-different breeds and colors. I use to work for one here in Georgetown, and a lot of great horses went through there. Some pure and some grade.

If you need any info, I know of 3 riding stables that Ive been trail riding at all over KY with good inexpensive horses. Just PM me.
Also--
I would get something older--with a been there done that attitude. And probably a gelding. I like mares.. but geldings just are easier.
Remember too that color or breed doesnt make a good horse!

There is an exception to all breeds, but Id stay away from hotter breeds like TBs or saddlebreds or Arabians, some gaited breedsetc. I had a saddlebred filly that was the best horse ever. I trained her in a week and she was super smart, but Id stick with something a little more cold blooded. Like a draft pony!

My son saw a shetland pony (I think, could have been a mini horse) and says 'Aw mom!! Did you see that little bitty horsey?? I want one!'

I guess 'his' little bitty horsey (a large pony/small horse size) is not good enough

Thanks for the great info on horses..... I'm such a soft hearted person when I see animals listed that folks need to get rid of due to financial situations, I just want to adopt, adopt, adopt.....

Our back acreage isn't fully fenced so getting something that DD can ride is really not an option right now but I love information on terms just so I know what folks are talking about....

She has to decide if she wants to do riding lessons or dance lessons and right now she's still undecided which she loves to do more.... She can still remember when we lived in VA going bare back riding at a friends riding stable.....

STILL NO BABIES this morning.... Ella was crying quite a bit which is unusual for her so maybe with the weather change it'll happen...

Posted this in the Kentucky Traders thread but just a FYI, Friday and Saturday Oct. 30th and 31rst at the Fairgrounds here in Louisville is the National Young Bird Show for Pigeons and Doves. People come from all over to show their birds and almost every breed of pigeon will be represented. There is also a sale section and you could pick up some really nice birds there as well. I think that is also the weekend of the big monthly swap meet. The birds are supposed to be in the Pavilion of the West Wing.

I do the same thing with wanting to adopt them all----and I train horses. lol I just bought a grulla filly (my favorite color, lol) in Indiana--it was a long drive and when I got there she was not as tame as they said...... Luckily I have had horses my whole life, train natural horsemanship, and know what Im doing (most of the time!). I took her anyway and am still dealing with her issues--She is 2 with no respect and and would be very dangerous in the wrong hands.
I have 4 other horses to ride though, so if I dont mess with her until next summer, its fine by me. Its really time consuming even if you know what you are doing. I say just make sure you get one that is very BROKE-"kid broke" even- very very tame and mellow--they are out there!
There are a lot of issues that some horses have, that are particularly hard to get them to stop doing. You can find good ones online and at Craigslist, but there are TONS more that are not as good as their description says they are. If it were me, I would find a person that has had horses forever, or a trainer friend that can go with you to test them out.
Some people will even drug a horse before sales to calm them down. Others will find a way around a vice.
Lets say a horse is really hard to catch in a big field. When you come to look at him, he will be already caught or in a small pen etc... Or one that bucks when he is really fresh...Ill bet they ride that horse around to wear him out before you get there. Get from a reputable seller, or somewhere like the riding stables where you can show up and see the horses anytime. It really really helps. I dont know how far you are, but if you ever need help--just PM me. Ive know a lot of people to fall in love with one and never be able to ride it. Id suggest dance lessons in the winter and riding in the summer--heck you can bring here here! She can ride mine bareback!
