Okay last I checked I wasn't a roo... But P'nut Butter(standard Cochin) has been running up to me the last two days and squatting every time I go back there... And chats at me the whole time... So I oblige her with a quick scratch on the back she fluffs it off and is happy the rest of the time I'm out there... She is so funny, this is our nosey one that has to see everything you are doing and jumps right up in the middle of it all to help.

Funny...

Well kids went back to school this morning (nice)... house is quiet (really nice). I'm just sitting here looking out the window watching the wild birds at my feeders, dogs are curled up on the couch napping... looks like a good idea

I'm on my 10th day of incubation, I guess its all going good, some of them eggs I can not see in, the shell is too dark! We have a huge fish tank (dont have fish in it right now) so I decided yesterday to use it as my brooder for now. We moved it in the living room so when the chickies hatch and need to be moved I can really watch some chickie TV

I really wish it would start warming up and Spring would get here, I really miss being outside

My favorite pullet has graduated to perching on my shoulder. Our kids (Powell Co) are still out of school. Driveway is treacherous, any paved road is clear.

My hat is off to the road crews. I've seen them plowing extremely remote roads. Just not gravel ones, I guess they can't.

Better put my hat back on, Boldy might poo on my head...

For anybody that is into sewing and quilting check out your local WalMart. If the store is scheduled for a remodel check out the fabric department and see if they plan on phasing it out. The store I work at is doing that I have picked up a bunch of fabrics at rediculous low prices, some as cheap as $1.50 a yard. They marked the fabric down by 25% off.

Uuuhhh... I wouldn't throw away my winter coat just yet. To quote General Ackbar from Star Wars, "It's a Trap!" . Winter is just trying to sucker you into throwing away your coat so that it can freeze you to death a few days from now.

We have snow flurries forcast for Sat, Sun, and Mon. But then again it will be above freezing all three of those days. So compared to the past few weeks it does seem like spring.

Some of my chickens decided to perch on the 8 foot wood fence behind my house last night insted of going into the coop. I was able to get several to climb onto a 1 x 2 board that was 8 feet long. I then rotated the board over into my yard where they hopped off. Two hens however panic ed and flew off into the neighbors back yard and became trapped by the 8 foot fence. The house is abandoned and they being hens I figured they wouldn't be crowing at 5:00 AM and I needed to go to work so I just left them until today.

So today I had to climb into the back yard of the abandoned house behind me to rescue these two stupid hens. I haven't been handling these chickens as much as I have handled many of the ones before, so as a consequence they squalk, fly, and run away like I was going to rip their lips off.

I must say though, that once caught they calmed down and were content. It is as if they think , "Okay that was fun, but game over, what can I do next to cause this stupid human to run around".

I shoot for 50 -65% in the hatcher. Works for me.

Thanks so much! I have mine at 55%. I have two pans of water, 3 sponges and wadded up wet paper towels. I can't get it any higher. People have been telling me 70-75% but that seems so high.

Thanks again. This is my first hatch in an incubator. I usually just let my older hens do it. My husband made me a hatcher, so I'm anxious to try it. Just been having the problems with the humidity.

I dont have anything in my bator that tells me the humidity, just the temperature thing that came with it... the instructions just told me the fill the middle container with water twice a week, then on day 18 fill all 3 containers with water. The bator is doing all the work for me

You're correct there!

I had to rescue another hen today, only she was able to make it to the top of the 8 foot fence and hang on with her neck then kick and scratch her way over while flapping her wings. And of cource squalking...

(note: this is not an actual photo of me and the hen, just a graphical representation) ((Don't want any confusion))

It's times like these when I am glad people don't take a close look at my chickens and ask where their lips are. Since they squalk like I'm trying to rip them off.

My coop hens are at the POL (Point of Laying) I am getting about two eggs a day from around 6 hens right now. I'm only getting about 4 eggs a day out of 12 other year old hens. So I took the one rooster that was in with that group out today. He seems to be rough on the girls so I'm thinking he needs to be kept seperate until I can see if he is the primary cause of the decrease in laying. All but 5 of the hens are young enough that they shouldn't have stopped laying. We will see.
