Hi, everyone.

Popping in to remind everyone about the recognition awards.

We want to validate the efforts and contributions of our members who give sooo much. This community is special because of the efforts of its members, and we all want to honor that.

NOW: get to nominating, if you haven't already!

Remember, each BYC member may nominate one member each month for each of the three recognition categories: BYC Friend, BYC Educator, and BYC Spirit. That's three nominations each month, and we want to see more submissions!

Use the Nomination Submission Form to make your suggestions.

Thanks!

Greetings fellow Kentuckians, Fairly new to the site. I'm not far from Grayson, Elliot Co. My weasel and coyote problem disappeared when we took in a stray dog a couple of years ago. He is one of the gentlest critters I have ever known. He fancies himself a self-appointed chicken herder and even barks hawk warnings. The chickens are his friends and though they don't always understand his playful intent, they seem to put up with him.

He was very protective of the chciks. He would follow mama around if if a baby got seperated he would stay with it till it found mama again.

We had 3 dogs that mostly all got along with the chickens. The Lab would just lay around with the chickens. It was funny to see her in one of her dug out holes with chickens all around and on her sleeping. The older chowmix never found any interest in the chickens. If they came up to her she would get up and walk away. The chihuahua was the herder in the group. She had littledogitis. She would tease the roosters because she knew she could run faster than they could. They would think she wasn't looking and would go in for an attack and she would take off like a bullet just as one of them would get close enough to think he had her. It was a game to her. She never hurt or even touched any. When the chickens would wander out of the yard she would go and get them and heard them back to the yard. And when a stray or neighbor dog would come in the yard she would chase them out of the yard and all the way back to their yard while the 2 big dogs just stood there and watched. I wish I had a camcorder running when it happened because it was the funniest thing i've ever seen. Those bigger dogs would run with tail tucked as fast as they could. And she was fast too. She would be right on their heels the whole way.
