There is a lady who is a dairy goat "queen" that lives in Harrodsburg. Is that too far? I could get her name and number for you? She milks everyday with severe artheritis, says it keeps her hands supple and working. She has a really cool goat stand with a hand winch. Goat steps on, she winches it up to her size and milks away. Her daughter is a traveling vet in Mercer county, meaing she vets out of her Truck, coming to your farm. I wish they were just a bit closer to me. She is an expert on goat care. I do know it is important to get a calm nanny goat, or you always spill the milk. I only have 4 Boer females. Good luck.

Thanks LotzaHenz and

Breeding is way down by the Metcalfe, Cumberland county line. Opposite side of the county from you, LOL.

How far out is Little Cake Rd. from town? I have only been out through there once or twice, and cannot tell the distance on the crappy internet map. Cindy wants me to pick up her chickens for her, since I am going to see her next week - I may want some of the japs, too <g> (don't tell hubby - shhh.)

PM me with your address and directions to your house (or give them to Cindy and she can PM me back - but it might be easier if ya PM me, too, LOL.)

shoot, got company, I'll post to ya later -
LOL Forget it, it was hubby playing with his tractor horn - trying to hook it up.

Anyway, I might be interested in some of the japs (would be happy to take a few of them off your hands if ya don't want them - how much are they?)

Peace -
Meriah

Ya know, I just realized that you said you might go to sano friday - Maybe we can meet up there and I can get Cindy's chickens (and if ya got some extras... well, who knows <g>).

I do want some of the japs, maybe a roo and two or three pullets (or all of the extra pullets ya don't have homes for, since ya said you have 7 - it wouldn't be that many after cindy's and your taking birds out of the total.) Let me know.

I been trying to get hubby to let me go to sano anyway, LOL I usually go early - what time do you usually arrive, and how will I know ya - beside hearing you holler at your kid to get back here! LOL.

I'll bring my cage, anyway, so I'll have transport for them.

PM me <g>.

Hey, Cindy - your PM inbox is full.

I got the chickies from Shelley tonight. I'll be coming to your house monday afternoon - I'll call before I leave my house, so you have an approximate time <g>.

Don't worry about paying me for the two pullets - you've given me enough free chickens, I owe ya <g>. I really appreciate all the chicken swapping you've done for me.

It may be closer to noon when I come, it depends on if my kid has to work that day (I'm his wheels).

BTW - I got a trio of bantam cochins at the auction <g> they are blacks. Gonna name them - James (Brown), Aretha (Franklin), and Etta (James) - guess I'm in a soul music type of mood today. <g>.

Peace -

Sorry Meriah, I cleaned out my inbox now...Can't wait to see my new babies, did you get to keep the rest of them? Thought I better warn you ahead of time that this OEGB guy really likes to crow, still kind of a choked crow, I think he is fairly young around 5-6 months but not sure. That is the one thing I forgot to ask the breeder is their age. One of the girls is so sweet, she will start talking to you as soon as she sees you, it's kind of like a backward hawk sound.
I don't see a problem with Monday, I don't have anything planned until 5:30 so it should be fine.

See you then, Cindy

ETA: Your little Cochin girl here is also black, you'll have a quad unless you still plan on letting Hoss have her.

I don't plan on doing any swapping around much until spring when I intend to begin breeding some - until then, they can all just keep each other warm this winter, LOL.

Crowing is fine here - we got lots of crowing, the neighbors are cool with it (and the banties can't be heard by the neighbors anyway - I love being so far away from everyone.)

Yeah, I took the others she had extra - two roos and three pullets. We'll see which roo gets the girls come spring <g>.

I might need more coops,

Hubby doesn't want to even HEAR that.

He asked me tonight how many chickens I'm going to get - I thought he meant from you, he said, "No, how many before you STOP?"

I said, "I don't know, how many more coops are ya gonna build me?"

LOL...I'd love to have seen his face when you answered him...

Just think what is going through his mind now, he's gonna have nightmares of being attacked by large chicken coops...

ETA: I gave the Cochin babies laying crumbles today because they aren't eating the grower/finisher pellets too well, I think they're too big. They should be okay til Monday don't you think? I didn't realize that was what the coop gave me and so I decided to try it since I already opened it.

They'll probably be fine. I gave the babies from Shelley laying mash tonight, because the grower was in the house, and I didn't feel like running in after it. I'll give them some grower tomorrow.

I have them in the brooder cage, so they'll be easier to catch monday (and so the eogb can get used to seeing them). They all huddled up together and went to sleep in the corner - they are so small and cute<g>.

I was still keeping a light on them, until I put them in the new pen I had built. I cover it with plastic at night, so they don't get too cold, and they would sit by the door that I left partway uncovered for air, and that's where they would stay. I don't think they really needed it, but I was afraid of them mashing each other. There were the 18 japs, plus 6 silkies, so that's a lot of weight if one of the smaller ones got on the bottom!
