Kids, our newest predator

I am very sorry for the loss of Angelo, I adore my ducks. I feel you need to at the very least inform the local authorities of your suspicions, though you have no real proof. Tell them the history, you say it's gone on for a few months now? They've been getting into the coop and you haven't locked it yet? You worry if they will do anything, but you yourself have done nothing? Uhm, find out if you are legal and even if you aren't, call in a police report.

Now, what REALLY worries me- your uncle KNEW the kids were in the backyard, bothering the duck and talking about kicking him, and he did NOTHING? Didn't tell them to go away, NOTHING? Is there a reason that he just let the nightmare go on? I realize there may be extenuating circumstances, but I am hard pressed to think what they could be!

I hope you can clear this up and the kids, who may or may not be responsible, don't come back.

I'm sorry about your duck, but I have to say I agree with ranchie.....if this has been an ongoing problem with the kids coming onto your property and into your coop, why the heck haven't you locked it and made sure they didn't have access?

Sorry, if it were my uncle or relative who saw or heard what was going on I'd be upset with him for not doing anything either. If he was physically unable to get out in the yard for some reason why not call the cops and have them come while the kids were still there?

Kids like that are very scary and with a mother like that probably don't have much of a future ahead of them.

OK Folks!
Let's keep on target now. She has written to us for help in a distraught emotional situation.
Hindsight is ALWAYS 20/20.
Obviously she has only herself to rely on and these kids are violent.
Let's put our minds together, and looking forward, help her out of this mess.

Paradise, no offense, but you seem to have perhaps skimmed throught the first post.

The OP is not alone, she refers to "we" throughout. AND there is the uncle who says he heard the kids talking about it but didn't do anything about it! Shocking behaviour.

The boys are being blamed, but there is no evidence that will stand up in court. The problem has been going on for months and the OP has not protected her (their) birds? Until one is alledgedly killed by the kids? No one saw it! Yes, it does sound like the punks did it, but it also sounds like the OP should have nipped the problem in the bud.

OP and Paradise, no offense intended, but I am giving the same reality check that law enforcement would. Let's hope the poor birds are legal there - or the OP will have to continue taking the abuse or risk losing them all. I know, I'm a meanie.... nope, I am a realist. I still send hugs for the awful situation, but I also say wake up and smell the coffee!

Yep - been reading in shock since she posted. Yep there's a ;ot of shouldv'e - would have done it different myself but now where do we stand? PROTECT the birds. Even if it means she loses them to another home because of zoning, she needs to protect them. Just my opinion

I am curious to know what has happened up to this point. Have the police been called? Any No Tress. signs posted on the property? Any kid sightings since? Speak to the parents or call social services? All the animals ok so far? Need an update.

i agree call the police but first make sure you are allowed to have the chickens and ducks but i would just like to tell you all, some kids may be bad but not all of them I keep 40 chickens and have given it to meany kids before for hurting mine or others animals:mad:
