Kids, our newest predator

Maybe I'm being cynical--again--but what is the difference between this mother giving the kids a free pass on this and the dog owner that says "Dogs will be dogs." after his free running "pets" have trespassed on your property and killed your animals? Both require legal satisfaction. Call the police!

I agree!

You've nailed the problem Mort! A predator is a predator, wether on wings, four legs or two legs. Children that are allowed to behave this way are future residents at the Cross-Bar Hotel. And no one can predict what horrors they will commit to earn their trip there.

So to the OP...call the cops,Social Services and anyone else there in your area that has juristiction over juvenile deliuents, and the Humane Society. The life you save may be your own,and for sure could be those boys.

What you have is not serial killers, its kids that need an ass whooping.

That may well be, but these boys could also turn out like the teen in Florida who became a serial-killer of cats. These cats were not feral strays, but people's beloved pets. He was using some kind of drug to knock them out and then partially skinning them and leaving them out in plain sight for the neighbors to find when they got up in the morning. The thing that chilled me, is that when he was filmed shortly after being arrested, he looked straight at the camera and SMILED. It's not like these boys were just out shooting BB guns at squirrels or sparrows, but they deiberately kicked or stomped someone's pet to death, on the person's property. Not only are they guilty of animal cruelty, but also of trespassing. Should you call the police? Of course. If the law in your area is that you cannot have your birds, I feel it's worth the fact that these boys are punished in some way and perhaps it will prevent them from escalating to killing/torturing someone's cat, dog or even their child.

At the risk of getting a good chewing out, I am once again going to attempt to point out the holes in the OPs post and also point out that the OP has not returned for any discussion of the subject.

This was my post:

"I am very sorry for the loss of Angelo, I adore my ducks. I feel you need to at the very least inform the local authorities of your suspicions, though you have no real proof. Tell them the history, you say it's gone on for a few months now? They've been getting into the coop and you haven't locked it yet? You worry if they will do anything, but you yourself have done nothing? Uhm, find out if you are legal and even if you aren't, call in a police report.

Now, what REALLY worries me- your uncle KNEW the kids were in the backyard, bothering the duck and talking about kicking him, and he did NOTHING? Didn't tell them to go away, NOTHING? Is there a reason that he just let the nightmare go on? I realize there may be extenuating circumstances, but I am hard pressed to think what they could be!

I hope you can clear this up and the kids, who may or may not be responsible, don't come back."

Fences make good neighbors. Protect your birds. And get evidence/proof before calling the law. Make sure you are legal.

READ the posts, please, folks. It was a duckling, not a chick.

I agree with you, ranchhand, the uncle should definitely have put a stop to what he saw, and the OP really should have taken measures to protect his/her birds when this first all started.

You have some very good points. I too was beginning to wonder about the OP, and I had noticed that they have not responded to any post here. I know that all of us are in agreement with what we would do under the same circumstances, but I am not sure that anything we have to say will make a difference with what is going on at the OP's home.

They were on last night..but didnt comment on their thread ...
So who knows...

I am very disturbed by this post and can hardly believe that the police and social services have not been called much much MUCH sooner. When these boys are seen on your property the police should be called immediately. Why has that not happened?

I don't get it.
