Seriously contemplating giving myself a terrible quarantine cut

Seriously? You guys are STILL in quarantine? Come out here and you can get a haircut, steak dinner, go boating or hiking or touristing. That's awful. How are you not going nuts?

We're in sort-of self quarantine on account of being old, but that's by choice. Besides we're hermits anyway.

I got very good at french braiding my hair back when I was doing martial arts seriously. There's little worse than coming out of a roll and trying to stand up on your hair.

Yes that’s one way...or you hold them upside down by the legs, your belly to chicken belly and you position the head in your free hand (like hold the head between these fingers ) and then you pull down to tighten things for the final twist of the neck. Dead. Careful though, Bad went a bit Of Mice and Men and ripped a head clean off. I guess he doesn’t know his strength sometimes.

The ends of my hair are getting pretty raggedy. But not stove-cut raggedy

I tie mine back then put another hair tie fairly close to the end. I carefully move it around to where I can reach and see it, then cut off the ragged end with sharp scissors. It's almost too short to manage this, but it works. I think yours would be easier, but I would do hair ties all the way down, to make sure it stays even. (You prolly already know all this.) I used to do it all with two mirrors, behind my back, but it was shorter then.

Couldn't see the moon from here at all. There were thunders and rain from the heavens--but no hailstones or coals of fire, so there's that...

Actually I'm really grateful for the rain, especially since three 4-wheelers went past us, headed for Kelly Gulch, popping off fire crackers and shooting bottle rockets as they went. I thought at first they were shooting (also dumb from a moving vehicle) until I heard the whistling noises. This is the Black Hills Natl. Forest--very much against the law because, um, forest fires? Anyway, super glad to have the rain.
