What's a pie bird for?

It's used to let steam out of the pie, so as to avoid the crust cracking in an unwanted manner, and so that a filling doesn't bubble out around the edges and make a mess in the oven.
It's also used for decoration, I believe.

Yep.
However it did not work worth a poop. I apparently filled The pie too full and it bubbled out all over the oven anyway despite the pie bird.

I have far too many feathers laying around -- "laying" pun not intended -- and this would be a great use for them.

Well it probably won’t be ready till about 10:00 tonight. That might give you enough time to pick up @Overo Mare and some peach cobbler on the way down.

I have far too many feathers laying around -- "laying" pun not intended -- and this would be a great use for them.
It's so beautiful!

That was feathers from a call duck,
Some shoveler ducks and a mallard.
I just hot glued them to a painted canvas.
It was tedious.
I ended up using a jar ring in the center so I would have something to glue to to finish it out.
