They are cute as the dickens, but I shudder to think what kind of genetic problems may be introduced in the efforts to get cattle down to the size of the average dairy goat.

Good point... the goal is a cow that's easy to keep, handle & feed for small homesteads. Cattle did use to be smaller long, long ago. Of course if you were living in the wilds of ancient Scotland, you probably weren't worried whether the Highland society would accept your herd into the fold, so mixing it up with say, a Beltie, wasn't a big concern.
