Meat is meat. The swiss eat dogs and cats.Thought only asian countries did that.I am sure some countries are horrified with our cow killing.Oh well as long as the killing is fast then let the people have their horse, cow, pig, dog or whatever.Hopefully it never gets to soylent green.......

in India cows are gods yet in America we slaughter their *gods* by the millions because they taste good

Horse meat is regularly eaten on mainland Europe and in France there are butchers who deal exclusively in horse meat. It is abhorant to some of us but others accept it as an reasonable alternative to beef. We have had a big 'hoo ha' this week in UK because both horse and pig DNA was discovered in beefburgers. They were removed from the supermarket shelves and an inquiry set up to find who was responsible. Of course this begs the question, 'Are all manufactured meat products analised for their DNA content, or did someone in the industry tip off the Food Standards Agency?'

I am from germany where some folks eat horse meat.I, myself had horse sausage before, tasted just fine. I dont look at it as the cute animal, i look at it as meat in that moment. Having eaten horse before doesnt keep me from loving them any less. BTW my remaining family and friends in germany think its horrifying that we eat squirrel, ground hog..... wait until they visit me . THere will be a steaming hot pot of squirrel dumplings on the stove top

I know this isn't about chickens, but we are animal people, not just chicken people. Has anyone else heard about this? The House and Senate just approved a bill legalizing the slaughter of horses for human consumption and OBAMA SIGNED IT IN TO LAW!! On November 18th.

Are they kidding? This is preposterous!
Why is this preposterous? Why are you not just as appalled by us consuming millions of tons of chicken, beef, goat, lamb or pork (BTW pigs are MUCH smarter than horses) Why are horses above being consumed? They are by design a prey animal, with eyes set on the side of the head and an herbivorous diet. They have all of the same qualities as many of the other animals we consume. Truth be told, a horse's diet is a great deal less gross than a chicken's, turkey's, or pig's, all of whom are omnivores. I just don't understand why eating a horse is such a taboo in America. Why? because they are beautiful, graceful, and majestic; are aesthetics what decide what we eat? What does that say about us as a people? Every place humans have coexisted with equines, we have hunted and consumed them. Almost every other country that has horses eats them, France, Argentina, Mexico, almost all European countries, the list goes on and on. So, I ask you again, what ordains horses above all other herbivorous animals?

Are you anthropromorphizing horses?
I say yes..
We eat cattle which would be horrifying to Indians. With a hunger crisis going on in parts of the world, why is it so terrible for people to eat horses? Because YOU think they are soft and cuddly??
Get real. No wonder the rest of the world think people in the US are DUMB,,
Environmentalists like you are destroying this country!

I posted in this thread earlier, and now I'm calm. Anyways, you people who like horses being killed are, C-R-A-Z-Y! I've seen horrifying videos of horses being slaughtered, and they die a SLOW AND PAINFUL death. Go ahead you horse haters, watch videos and look them up. Then you will belive me and all the others. My hands are shaking and I'm about to cry right now. So please don't deny my request. I'm begging you, STOP THE MADNESS!!!

I am far from a horse hater. I had horse meat in the past, sorry if you hate me. Any animal is eaten at some place on this planet while the same animal is considered holy and loved in other parts. What we eat is dictated by where we grow up. In India they consider cows holy and we eat them in the US by the millions. Asians boil inucbated fuzzy ducklings and we oogle and care for them here. I dont think you have the right to judge people for what they eat.

little fun fact im in korea atm and they actually have a breed of dog bred purely for meet and it is very expensive(i always thought they just ate like the family pet when it got too big or old to do anything with)

My mom is a native South Korean and came from a wealthier high class background, she said the poorer places are dangerous for pet dogs. People will illegally go into your backyard and steal your dog or take dogs off the streets and take them to a dog eating place.. Other than the poorer areas South Korea is actually very nice and the people are nice to dogs.
I was born in Korea and when I was a baby my parents fed me dog .. When I realized that at 10 years old I cried for hours and felt awful for days. Now I know it's really no different from eating cattle or chicken. It is purely cultural.
If American grocery stores start selling horse meat or fast food joints will start having stallion burgers then oh well... No different from cows, chicken, or pigs. It's just one of those things you have to live with. I'm no vegetarian, because I eat seafood, and because I'm not a herbivore I don't think I should get worked up over horses being eaten. That would make me a really big hypocrite.
