Hi All,

We have a 5 month old male king quail that we rescured because he was born with a bad leg and his mother kept leaving him to fend for himself.
He is now a loyal and loving member of our family.

Recently he has started to open and close his mouth slowly and repeatedly.

He only does this a few times per day for 2-3 minutes at a time.
Aside from this new behaviour he is happy to eat drink and run around the house as fast as he can with his one good leg.
Still loves to be held and scratched, and enjoys crowing and whistling at 5:00am to let us know its morning.

My wife thinks he is sick and wants to rush him to a vet to jam him full of antibiotics. But I was of the opinion it may do more harm than good.
Any ideas from someone experienced with these type of birds as to why he is doing this?
