Kitty and Dog Thread, Show Me What You Got, other critters welcome too

:lau how much personality “should” an animal have according to him!? 😂🤔

Thank you!! It really is. He was the best 😭😭

So sorry about yours!! :hit

So sad. :hit

Cancer sucks!

Gator most likely had MMM according to the vet but we never actually tested him. But he lost all the muscle mass in his head so developed a very prominent crown and his eyes also sunk way in and he started having eye infections, ear infections, skin infections, etc. and at one point actually lost like all his fur. :( I think the full name is masticatory muscle myositis and basically there’s a certain protein I think that the body starts attacking at least from what I understand. It attacks itself. It’s awful watching him decline over such a long period :( we tried a bunch of different stuff, steroids, etc. and it maybe slowed it some but didn’t stop it.

According to my husband I ruin them all...see they really only listen to me. I don't see a problem with that! :idunno:lau

Thank you!

It is so hard to watch them decline. The vet wanted to do surgery on Bear but he was 10, no way was I going to put him through that. I'd rather lose him than put him through a surgery he may not recover from. I am adamant about not keeping an animal going for me. I've watched too many clients who had more money than sense keeping a horse going. One had cancer and he was absolutely miserable. You could see it in his eyes. After 2 years of almost 300 pills a day and no change the vet put his foot down and said no more. He suffered needlessly. :hit

I can honestly say I have never heard of that disease before. I will have to read up on it. Poor Gator!

:lau I always found it hilarious when Gator would listen to me but not my dad or the boys :lau

Funny thing is he would listen to anybody if only they would just listen to me when I tried to tell them how to get him to listen 😂

I honestly think training humans especially men is harder than training animals. :lau

I can get the cat to high five, sit pretty, sit, touch but can’t get them to put the toilet seat down 😂🙈

And oh wow that’s awful! :hugs I feel the same way. Would never put them through surgery at that age and not even sure if I’d put them through chemo and stuff knowing how awful it is. And oh wow that’s so sad!! That would have made me mad I feel like.

Gator probably could have gone a couple weeks sooner but we didn’t do it on purpose or anything. Just so hard to tell cause even though he’d mostly stopped eating he would still get somewhat playful so

But one day he was just done and you could tell you know? Looked way different/tired and done and we knew. I would never have kept him alive after that just cause I’d miss him. That’s so selfish. :( you could tell he was done and I would never force an animal to go any longer than necessary.

And yeah we had never heard of it either until he got diagnosed!!! He actually went in for something different and the vet commented on his crown and how it could be MMM and he’d have to look into it more since he hadn’t seen many cases. And actually, looking back at old pictures, I can see the crown starting to develop even before that and I feel really bad I didn’t notice early and wonder if we could have stopped it :(

I've never shaved a cat, but I am close to shaving his fuzzy butt! :gig:lau
:lau the first time we had to cause she was pretty matted and then after they said she might be the type of cat that just needs to be shaved every year so she doesn’t get matted since she doesn’t really let me brush her so I did it the next year then after that I kinda decided I’d just leave her and try to brush her more. She hates being shaved/“naked” and is miserable for a few weeks after so I just felt really bad and didn’t want to put her through that anymore haha plus it kind of changed her coat somewhat so I’m hoping by not shaving it will come back to normal.

Okay this is my cat crew. Thought I'd share everyone.
