I got my first pony when I was 7. I pretty much grew up on the back of a horse. Neighbor girl and I would spend every free minute riding her horses or my pony. It's probably one of the many reasons I have a bad back and hips. I also grew up on a dairy farm. I did a lot of hard farm labor. I milked cows for many years. That’s awesome.

My husband and I owned his parents dairy farm for about 9 years before we gave up and got out. Now we have a nice 40 acre hobby farm.
I can imagine how you felt when you had to let her goI had always dreamed of doing some English riding and all that went along with it, but it never was to be for me. It was mostly bareback riding here.
My horse was a POA percheron mix. I bred her momma to the neighbors stallion. I had my horse her whole life. I always said I brought her into this world and I'm gonna take her out of it too. I put her down when she was 30. I have owned various ponies besides her but she was my only horse. She was a gentle big soul. A farrier I used to use would ask why am I keeping a fat old useless horse when I could get a good meat price on her. I never called that guy again. I do what I can to make sure I can commit a lifetime to every critter I own.
The boy donkeys are 21, and 22. They aren't spring chickens either. They will be my last equine.
These are some gorgeous horses.
Here was mine.

I agree 100%!!! Except, not the part about the bad back and hipsThat is awesome!! That all sounds amazing.![]()
Right! That is a big part of the reason I stopped her lessons... my old lady fearsMines a hunter too. We are country folks here.
Horses are a big commitment many people want but most can't afford to get involved with. The older I get the more I realize how dangerous horses can be as well. As a kid that stuff never occurs to you.
I didn't mention the replaced shoulders and knees. Just the stuff that still needs fixing.I agree 100%!!! Except, not the part about the bad back and hips...
sorry about your pain oldhen.. getting old really stinks!
Oh my goodness... maybe I should be glad I hadn’t ridden my whole life..I didn't mention the replaced shoulders and knees. Just the stuff that still needs fixing.
The body falling apart stinks, but being more confident and comfortable in my own skin is a good thing that comes with aging. So some stuff is better.![]()
