Kristen’s Chickens and Farming Ventures

Good morning :frow the kids are all doing well, but on their winter break so no eggs.

You must not have gotten any of the breed's that are winter layer's then to help carry you through the winter. Where I am at, it get's way too hot for me to be worried about that. I have to get the breed's that can handle the heat, other wise that's what I would have done to be able to get a flock that would lay egg's all year long.

My barn yard mixes should start back up next month, but the RIW and Holland will probably be March.

I have some pullet's here that should start laying egg's about the same time as your's do. Hopefully the egg laying system's will have all of the kink's sorted out with them by the time the heat start's souring over here again to help with the stress level for the beginner's.

@Kris5902 Everyone's fruit tress were fully loaded this year, so all of my neighbor's that have them have been out there for the last week trying to get them all off the tree's. I'm the only one in my house that will eat any. I have oranges and tangelo's already, and they keep wanting to give me more, but I can only eat so many. :gig When you decide to visit and if you like fruit, this would be the time of the year to visit, and it wouldn't be too hot for you.

I could so do a desert this time of year... It is wet here right now, very wet. It has been raining heavily and steadily since Christmas. Why no pictures or projects for the chickens? Mud... so much mud and rain. It feels like walking through a swamp to get out to their tractors. The lighting is almost nonexistent, with grey days and dark by 4:30pm. The birds aren’t even clamoring to get out in the mornings the weather is so miserable!

I can’t believe I’m going to be working outside in this today, but the repairs have to happen. Aside from the soaking I’m going to get, today is going to be a shower day, washing the drywall dust out of my hair and such, so I can feel a little better about the Working in the “stuck in one place for a week chicken tractor mud/poop” on the ground. I have a feeling I’m going to get very dirty today.

Along with the rain come's weed's afterward's. The yard is getting full of them again. My DH has been out there for 2 late afternoon's spraying them. After they die, he will be dragging the yard again until there's nothing left but dirt and rocks, and the few trees. I've been out there in the area's that he hasn't sprayed yet to pick some of the weed's that the chicken's like to eat to give to them, since I don't free-range mine. I don't know what these weed's are called, but the chicken's sure go crazy over them. I just call them chicken weed's. ;)
