My middle school has two goats, two pigs, three chickens, and three cats. We also have two vegetable gardens (one in middle school and one in lower elementary) and two butterfly gardens.

A retired teacher who still runs copies and such... jabbering with her in the workroom last year she told me that MANY moons ago the school had chickens, ducks, reptiles and I donno what else in the courtyards... there are two... think of the school as a big number 8.

But then they had coon and rat issues and they didn't want the city on their case so they got rid of all of them.

Rather than just securing them... and they STILL have problems with the critters. One coon, nicknamed Rocky, managed to get into the newest teacher's classroom, TWICE, for a weekend jaunt... it wasn't pretty. Then he was up in the ceiling over the workroom (creepy thudding next day turns out it was him) and AC finally got him.

ANYWHO... bummer that they got rid of such a good program... especially since it didn't stop the critter problems.
