kudos to Gordie Sternweis and Duane Urch

I agree! Having to milk all those cows would be a bit much for one or two people. I know Gordie has a hired helper but overseeing all those, I dont know how he did it!

What is his eggbid ID? Is it just gordie? I'd e-mailed him months ago about call ducks, I think and he said they'd gone broody or something and would get back to me when they started in again. I know he's busy, but don't know if I should check again to see if they're still not laying or if him not e-mailing is the answer to that. Sunds like he has too much on his plate to keep up, though.

Just an update on my two separate batches in case anyone is interested in knowing how fast their birds mature.

Gordie's birds are lovely and very large, and began to lay at around 25-26 weeks. They are sweet natured, curious, healthy, and easliy handled, even the roo.

Duane's birds are a bit smaller and very SLOWWWWWW to mature. REALLY slow!! They are 31 weeks at the moment and only one is getting red in the wattles and comb. They are also very healthy, curious, but more skittish and not as easily handled.

Neither group is flighty at all. I've never clipped wings and they don't even attempt to fly, though one likes to perch in our apple tree, which has brabches that are about 1-1/2ft off the ground.

I also have some other RIRs from Joel Gilman. They are also slow to mature, are 32 weeks old at the moment but starting to redden up quite a bit. So I'm hopeful!

I picked up a trio of welsumers and a trio of faverolles at a poultry show frow Duane Urch and very pleased with the birds.

Here is a picture of the welsumer roo

The only negative thing I can say was that the faverolles roo was missing its tail feathers (he said that the hens he was with pulled them out). However, the tail feather have pretty already grown back now, and the birds seem very health so far.

Pretty birds but both breeds shown are not the excellent example of show quality. The Faverolles should be alot lighter colored (the pullets).

Neverthanless, you got some pretty birds!
