LA-200 DOSING orally

I have tried to help others with dosage in the past, but there is no official dosage. Some links say 25 mg per pound and others just guess. LA 200 is 200 mg per ml. I would just google it and look at what most are giving. When we could get oxytetracycline powder, most gave the 800 mg dosage in the water. The LA200 is not dosed for chickens.

I am more comfortable giving dosages for Tylosin which is put in the water. You can get that here:

That treats MG as well. MG usually will cause swelling of the face or eyelids and bubbles in eyes. If there is sneezing and congestion only, then it may be infectious bronchitis virus, which antibiotics do not touch, but which runs it’s course over 3-4 weeks.
thank u. Nothing is dosed for chickens. I have googled and most I’ve come up with is maybe 1/2 ml but I’m assuming it’s adult dosage. These are small chickens so perhaps I can start there. Ive been all around google and just can’t come up with a solid per pound answer. Id rather not wait on an order to arrive. so I assume a regular chicken average weight 5lbs at 1/2ml that’s .2 per 2lbs. Not quite 1/4. So I suppose I’ll start there. Weigh the birds and go from there. Now the even bigger question would be ...every day for 7 days? Or once every 2-4 days....

If you’re concerned about ensuring correct dosing and you’ve found broken down dosages for injecting, you should bite the bullet and inject the correct dose. It’s a medication that’s intended for injection and while some drugs can be used through different routes and work, others do not. Most birds actually react less to a quick subcutaneous or intramuscular injection than pinning them down and forcing a dose into their mouth. If you’re having trouble finding dosing information for a specific route, usually it’s because it’s not a good choice. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Some drugs are definitely NOT safe to give by any other route than what is labeled so you have to be careful or you may do more harm than good. (Micotil, anyone?) Not trying to ruffle any feathers but given what you’ve said of your schedule, the best way to ensure proper dosing with the least amount of time and effort is to inject it.

I have often wondered if LA200 could be given orally or not. I remember reading somewhere that it's less effective given orally. This is the oxytetracyline info I have.

I think if I were going to try to use it orally I would give 25 mg/kg (0.06 ml per pound) twice a day or 50 mg/kg (0.12 ml per pound) once a day.

If no improvement after three days it's unlikely to help.
It’s respiratory not sure what exactly it is. It starts as a sneeze then turns to gasping for air and they are wheezing. Here is the dosing listed on the site as well as uses as its “broad” and this will treat the major like mg or Coryz. It’s a ditch effort to help them.
If they were mine I would try Baytril.
Baytril 10% - All Bird Products
Enrofloxyn: Bird Medications - Lady Gouldian Finch

Baytril is banned for use in poultry, so you have to think about that.

The dose I found is for full sized chicken so I broke it down per pound. It can be given orally or injecting...I would literally vomit and pass out if I had to inject...so literally for my sake no I will NOT inject. I understand what you are saying however I was looking for someone who may have a better idea of dose/how many times, how many days etc.

I cannot just order something online. I have LA-200 I WAS ABLE TO OBTAIN FROM LOCAL STORE (oops sorry for the caps) by the time something would arrive it most likely wouldnt do any good. So I assume with what im Still reading you are to give bigger dose orally as well as more frequent. So that may mean every day for the length of time they suggest. Curious if anyone has experience with it to better be able to assist

Ok so perhaps I’ll do the twice a day for 7 days to keep it active in their systems. I cannot mess with injecting or with something that goes in water as I cannot make multiple solutions during day bc of work

I based my dosing info from the pictures I showed, which say the injectable dose is not usually more than 50 mg/kg. 50 mg/kg = 0.12 ml per pound of bodyweight, which is 0.56 ml per 5 pounds.

If no improvement after 3 days, stop. If improvement after 3 days, give for two days past cessation of symptoms

Most people give it by injection. I won't use it because it's not very good in treating many bacteria, but if it's all you have, use it.

.
my thoughts too however as stated I’m pretty sure it’s not bacterial. Which is why I chose this one. :) I’m going to wing it I may do a dose in am and dose in evening and see how that goes for a few days as with the remaining 2 one is sneezing with runny eyes and below eyes just a hair swelling and the other no symptoms...yet. I think the best bet would be keeping it in system longer by doing 2 smaller dosnes as they aren’t full blown sick And go from there. Edited to add my daughter video called me with an update on the sneezer...she actually thought she was crying...had to give her a good look over through a camera. I will base my final decision when I return home tonight and can physically see her...it’s hard to see on camera

I have used LA 200 orally and injections. Orally I do 1 ml for average 5 pound chicken. I pull it out of bottle with syringe, squirt it on bits of bread, add a dab of sugar or apple butter for taste...and feed it to the bird.
While it IS broad spectrum...some ailments it won't cure. But you know that.
I too would give it a try if that's what I had available.

I do feel that 1 injection into the breast every 3 days is much easier than orally. Just like when we get sick...injections are the quickest most direct mode of dosing meds.

Good Luck with them!
