Langshan Thread!!!

I am still feeding them King starter food w/20% protein but they do eat some layer feed. They also get BOSS, plain yogurt, and shredded vegies/fruit. And they free range my 1/3 acre back yard so they get bugs and vegetation. Do I need to up their protein? What do you recommend to give them?

I have a white pair from Meek's line and the white cockerel from yours, Mikaela. Unfortunately, I'm not wanting to breed white. If this little cockerel from you develops into a good looking bird, I am going to try to find a home for him other than the freezer.

I'm debating on telling you to send him up here! I'd love to see how they develop!

I have mine a mix of 18% medicated starter and 28% medicated game bird starter until about that age, and then I drop it to the 18% feed. Otherwise leg problems can happen...and you'll have to put down the best darned bird you ever raised.

*sniff*

DANGIT.

So do I need to up the protein at this point or drop it to 18%? I've never raised a cockerel past 20 weeks and that one I kept until he crowed without planning on breeding him.

What is it that causes the leg problems? I read something recently about how important calcium is in a growing rooster's diet.
