Langshan Thread!!!

The whites couldn't have been from me. I had no whites at the time and no other birds carried the recessive white genes in my flock?

I know that Jim had some recessive whites pop up in his lines? Maybe that's where it came from? Or maybe his were only in the bantams?

Interesting breeds to keep and very different from each other!

My whites are just in my bantams, so it wasn't me. (Although I'd like some LF Whites)

hahaha figured it out PATIENCE

Interesting...VERY interesting! I wonder who it was? I can't think of any bird that I have that has any background with recessive white. I got rid of all of my whites and any that carried it just before I sold the eggs to Cheryl. How odd!

I should learn not to say, "not me". Unless I mismarked an egg, I just hatched out a LF White Langshan out of pen 4. I doubt it was mismarked because I label each egg before I leave the pen and the Cochin are in pen 2. (And pen 3 is Underwood RIR). Looking back at e-mails from the breeder that my stock came from, she does mention the slight chance of a white popping up.

LMAO!

It'll get you every time!!!! Congrats on having the recessive white gene Jim!

On the bright side, now you can make your own flock of whites!

Breed that bird back to it's mother or father...depending on gender and you'll get 50% black and 50% whites (with any luck!)

So, now that it appears that I have two cockerels. I need to find a good home for Lou. Anyone interested? I live in Seattle.

tinkseattle,

I just wanted to throw in my two cents worth here. I've popped in on occasion here on the langshan thread but I breed Andalusians. In my opinion, however humble it may not be, I think you should keep Lou and sell the other one. Blues are not supposed to be silver laced birds but an even shade of blue with black lacing. Perhaps you have other reasons, but judging from just the pictures, I'd keep Lou. You mentioned width of head if I remember correctly? Is that the only reason?

I would give them both a bit.

I have my preference already for one but you've got to build the barn before you paint it. One has a better back and one has a better head. One has a tail that is a bit pinched while the other does not. I would wait until they reach maturity. If you are only going for pets, keep the one that you like best!

yes some where around there 6-7 , maybe just now getting to 7 - got them as chicks still under warmer, Got ten at the time and they may have been a few days difference between all (1-4+ days), so basically I just considered they were all @ a week old but some may have only been a day or two

Any specific why you ask?
