Hello all! Just admiring your Langshan pictures. They are beautiful
Curious, has anyone found any Croad Langshan's here in the US? Would love to find a few to try and breed the "purple" back into their eggs. Thanks!

My Langshans have just started laying and I've been impressed with their egg color. I'll have to snap a pic to post. They aren't quite the dark plum but still a beautiful color. I did a google image search for Croad Langshan eggs and found a farm in Florida, I believe, that claims to have purchased some Croad Langshan eggs. Maybe they can tell you where to purchase some. I was saved on day 23. Look what popped out. The egg marked from the BBS pen hatched the very yellow chick. I don't have experience with Blues but looks like a Splash for sure. The other is from the unmarked egg. It is more grey than black so I'm thinking it is a Blue. (Any opinions?) Interestly enough I set a Rock egg 3 days after these guys, and it hatched on schedule. I thought maybe my temp was too low. The Rock had the advantage of going from henhouse to incubator, minus the 3000 mile shipping. I'm really mostly interested in Blacks, so sorry the three Langshan eggs marked from the Black pen didn't hatch (today is day 24, hope is fading). The darker chick may still turn out to be a Black.

Thanks. I'm now up to a total of 11 Langshans. Due to space limitations, I'm stopping at that for now. I used to live in Disneyland (well actually Diamond Bar). Everytime company came from out of town we had to go to Disneyland. I think we finally bought passes as they ran deals back then for locals. I knew every square foot then, but I understand its double in size now.Dang these two are cute! Goodluck, crossing my fingers for you.
So glad that you made it safely! Now for the fun job of unpacking!Hey guys! Just wanted to do a quick pop on. We made it to Oklahoma on Wednesday and our "stuff" finally made it here yesterday. Last night was the first night we got to sleep in our house!
Almost all the birds made it.
I saw one bird that "looked" like it might have the start of Fowl Pox (I wasn't worried, all the chicks in that barn were vaccinated, so one non-taker isn't something I worried about.) It wound up dying on the trip thanks to the snow, ice and ridiculous amount of wind on the trip! Another chick that died passed when we got home and of COURSE was my only surviving bantam speckled sussex chick for this year.
UGH.
Ah well, only 2 out of 35+? Not bad!
Do you weigh your eggs? Curious as to size. Are you planning on hatching in big numbers?I am so sad! All of my Langshans except for 2 are headed to the farm tonight! I keep telling myself that the girls have to be with the boys in order to have babies but I'm going to miss them! We don't have the breeding pens built yet so they will be free ranging on several acres during the day and housed in a horse trailer coop at night. I think that they are all laying now and here is a pic of their eggs. The second pic has 3 Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock eggs in the center (the lighter brown eggs) to show how the color compares.
