Laree's "I CAN'T STOP MYSELF FROM HATCHING!!!" Hatch-a-long

Guineas always start hatching by day 25 here, everything else is on-time except for those. I just tell people now they take 25 days to hatch

Well I guess I should have researched a little further and Thank You for that info. I have another 5 dozen I am hatching for someone and will lock down early.

Also have 1 Serama chick hatched under a broody this morning

Research would have showed you they take 28 days to hatch. They'll take 28 days under a hen but will hatch days 23-28 in an incubator.

Woke up to 2 poults hatched, and one stuck (unzipped) because he kncoked his egg over on its side.

Also, one of the poults somehow got its head stuck between the bars in the Brinsea---like a dog and a pool fence. So I had to disassemble that side of the Brinsea to get it out.

Here are my three poults from this morning. One is from my mutts, two are from the eggs I bought from that horrible person on ebay. I am thankful I got the two out of the 12 eggs I ordered.

But aren't they cuuuuuute?

It was the best of (shipped egg) hatches, it was the wierdest of hathces! Ok, so I said last night that I locked down with 8,
hide.gif
well there were 2 more in there that I wasn't counting, because they didn't look like full term eggs, half the shell looked empty! I thought I saw movement in one, but blue eggs are hard to see through, I have halucinated movement before.... So I left them in, but was so sure they were duds I wasn't counting them. So really I had 10 eggs in the bator,

8 of which I thought looked like keepers. Well I had one of my good eggs pip the right in the middle of the egg, and took for ever to zip and get out, turns out it was head to the small end when it hatched.

When I went to church last night I had 2 pips and two duds, I came home to two zips and a pip. One of the duds was zipping!! What!?!

Holy Cow!! So I now have 7 chicks hatched. The pip from last night died. I don't know why.

I did an egotopsy, it hadn't absorbed the yolk. I still have movement but no pip yet in one of my good eggs, and no reason to keep the last egg, except that I had another that looked just like it and hatched!!

The little one I thought was a dud hatched out all sticky, and got a couple of the others all gummed up with its membranes and goo, I had to give 3 of them a bath a little bit ago. Once they fluff I will post pics.
