Sorry to hear that.... I hatched 8 last week and lost 2 the 1st night.
Maybe it is the weather.... I had a Serama chick zipping under a broody yesterday, I left them alone to do their thing, came back later and the chick was shrink wrapped & dead.
We broke heat records here yesterday...these last 2 weeks have been way too hot.
I pulled broodies off their nest last night and took them to water & food, they are going to dehydrate, they are panting, heads hanging down
Now I have ANOTHER going broody, I took her off and locked her in the coop last night, so far all day today she is on that nest again
I have eggs to go to lockdown tonight, I think I am going to switch out their eggs and get them off the nests before its too late.
What I did with my broody hens was put a bowl of water and feed right in front of them so they would eat they did come out 1 day for a bit to scratch around then back in again.
They have both about 1 foot away, dumb butts eat & drink NOTHING!... never touched. I took them off and stood them in front of it and they hop right back on the nest. So I took them out to the big feeder and they both ate & drank like crazy & of course left a ginormus poop.
