Large Fowl Cochin Thread

I have thought this was a female. Is it a possibility it's a male? No shiney feathers, no saddle feathers, no pointed hackle feathers and the coloring is muted. This is my only cochin raised from an egg. I don't know anything about them and I thought hen just from general chicken observations. Almost 5 months.

i'd guess hen too, but i am still new to large cochins-

Can anyone here explain to me what has happened to brown large fowl cochins? They are listed on the APA standards as a true variety, but I can't seem to find any pictures of them on the web. What did these guys look like? Patternless Partridge? Just a curiosity question, because they seem to be extinct now.

These birds have much the same color pattern as the Dark Brown Leghorn, just apply it to a Large Cochin. Mr. Alex Duffy showed these birds with much success in the 1960's and there are black and white photos that exist of him with some of his prize winning Brown Cochins. Unfortunately, no records of the breeding of these birds exist to my knowledge and no Brown Cochins exist to my knowledge. I do know that in 1965 when the brown cochin was standardized there were four standard varieties in existence; black, white, buff and partridge, I believe it was from these original varieties that the browns were made. I have tried various combinations with results that have been all over the place. I have produced females with color much like that of a light brown leghorn but nowhere near the color of the dark brown. I am persistent if anything and will not quit until I have revived the brown cochin.

Thanks for the reply Bo, I am a big fan of the large fowl cochins. I applaud your effort at reviving this variety. When is the next big show? I would like to attend and meet some of the people working with large fowl cochins.
