Large Fowl Cochin Thread

Was wondering if this bird would be considered of good quality in feathering, coloring and such...not familiar with the breed but got this one in a roundabout way. Can't remember if I had asked that here already but would sure like to know if he has any potential within the breed.

I don't know Cochins well but I think he is handsome and he would look very nice paired up with my SLC hen lol

She's really pretty!! I was wondering about his feather quality, back line and tail and if they would be considered proper for this breed and his color/type. I'm sure he has hatchery origins as there are no Cochin breeders around here...or any other serious poultry breeders, for that matter...but he seems to be very well set up even from a hatchery source.

Definitely hatchery stock. His head is very narrow, tight feathering for a Cochin (The Cushion should be level with top of head). Can't tell size from a photo but he appears small (trying to use scale from netting behind him) I'll let someone else comment on coloration, Don't have much experience with Silver Laced, lacing looks too thick and overall too dark to my eyes but by no means an expert in the pattern.

I do like his comb size, he has great yellow leg color which can be an issue in Cochins sometimes.

Attached is a picture of a Cochin cockerel that shows good stance, feather quality, and a nice broad head for a younger bird. (Not my bird, just used for an example)

Thank you!! Excellent info!

I've been curious about this bird and breed since I got him(not intentionally...he was in a free pen of DP/layer birds I got for canning this winter and was not meaty enough to even kill), not that I intend to do anything with him but I've never been exposed to this breed, so like to learn as I can. I'm going to trim off those leg warmers and turn this sissy boy into a free range yard bird while he's here but didn't want to ruin his looks before I had these questions answered!

I don't know his age nor his background, he barely has spur nubbins and he just started crowing~very minimal, very quiet, two notes only~ but he's been breeding pretty steady for the past two months and is average sized for a DP breed...if you can call a Cochin that.

Thank you once again!

She was rehomed to me last year by someone local to me that was down sizing. The breeder she got her from I believe either has a closed flock or does not breed any more.

Anyone interested in cochin or brahma hens I have for sale? I have one blue, one black, a silver laced, one buff and one light brahma. Also one white cock bird purchased directly from Jamie Matts.large fowl. All hens just turned one this month and the cock bird is one year and 4 months. Would make a great cochin starter flock for a breeder they are big beautiful gentle birds. Eve the cock is able to be picked up and carried with no issues. Watches his hens and is the nicest cock I've ever had. Pictures of him and the hens are in my profile just PM me if you'd like more. I just have to many Cochins a and would love for them to be enjoyed by someone else. Would like for them to go to a home where I can keep in contact with new owner. Him and these hens have hatched beautiful chicks for me. Hens are great broodys and mothers!! Price negotiable more want them to get excellent homes. Located in pa. Thank you guys!!
