Large Fowl Cochin Thread

Pics
I was wondering how folkse on this thread feed thier Cochins. I just got two hens. They have crops the size of softballs! when they are full. I leave food out all the time for my other "regular" sized chickens, but wondered if Im going to be buying feed every week if I do that with these Cochins????

Is anyone bringing any LF Cochins to the Ohio National on November 9th and 10th? I am looking for those as well as Sultans, SP Rocks, Silver Grey Dorkings, FBCM, Showgirls, Naked Neck Bantams, Rouen ducks, in particular. Most of our 4-H Club is coming to the show to watch and looking to buy birds.

I hear that! I have my standby breed which are Ameraucanas. I don't think I will ever not have them. I am really loving the Cochins so far, bantam and large fowl! They also come in so many colors!!!!!!!!!!
I have bantam Cochins in several colors and LF Buffs. I absolutely adore them but just got some Wheaten Ameraucanas (and an EE and Olive Egger for eating eggs). I also have a trio of LaFleche for variety. I and sold on Cochins for temperment but is is nice to have something different for contrast.

But I did add LF cochins for the larger eggs. Plus Mainers seem to want large birds at the swaps.

Boy am I glad to find this thread. I love the look of the LF Cochin and my Americanas. Do LF Cochins come in Lavender? And What's the difference between blue and lavender? I live in Ohio and from what I have read the Cochins do well in cold climates but not well in hot humid climates up to 100 degrees or more and the Americanas do just fine in warmer climates but not as well during the below 0 degree months. So I was hopping to breed my Lavender Americana hens to maybe a blue or black LF Cochin roo. and in time get a LF Lavender, muffed, feathered leg bird that lays blue / green eggs. I figure the hard part would be wanting the blue / green egg. I'm not asking for too much am I?

Hi there!

I usually hang out over on the Faverolles thread, but I have a question I hope someone here can help me.... I have a trio of LF Cochins that I need to ship cross country. Does anyone have experience? - What I really need is a recommendation on box size. How big a box, how much room do they need for a 2 day trip?

I appreciate any responses to this. I'd like to get a box ordered soon. I just want them to have a comfortable, safe trip.
