Larkwell Valley (2023)

Grab him by the back of the wings. I used to do it the 'hard way' until someone showed this trick.
Oh, okay. I could probably do that if i get a running leap from behind, lol😅

His brother was way crazier, so I think if i can just get a hold, I won't get too badly scarred.

Definitely a learning curve though since usually I hug the duck front against my chest to squeeze the feet still

@Miss Lydia , do you know anyone here or anywhere i could read to figure out what crossing my blue Swedish drake over Pekin, khaki Campbell, buff, and Rouen hens? I'm debating on cutting the Rouen out, but I'd like a guess of what the offspring would look like first
Don't know if this will help you, but I had a completely blue drake in with my various females earlier this year, and two babies which I *know* have to be his turned out with blue mallard drake markings (out of most probably my Rouen girl), and more blue than mallard-ish without the prominent throat band drake from my KC girl.

This is them as hatchlings. One in the back is the KC mix.

Okay, so likely blue and black babies with various markings?

When my Pekins were little and outside I'd herd them to a corner so I could rangle them up. When they started growing and it got harder I started using peas to my advantage and they'd follow me to where I wanted them. They got a fair amount of hands on and now when I need to handle them they hardly ever flap the wings (especially the big drakes, they're excellent). I found also that the more I handled them, even if they eventually weren't as fond of it as they were as ducklings. As they approached 3 months two of them ended up needing antibiotics and I had to handle them due to injuries and to administer their meds so they got very used to it. They seemed to know I was trying to help them, especially my Pekin gal who would walk over to me and settle in my lap so I could tend to her (she's usually all sass and grit). Now when I have to handle them they do so so well. The other two boys do well also, one I think does better cause I had to treat his foot regularly for awhile and the other is just a good drake. The swedish are a little more on the skiddish side and take a bit more work but do well when I have them. What works with them sometimes is grabbing by the back making sure the wings are flat to their back and you can lay them back (belly and legs up) and kind of cradle them, adjusting thr cradle position as needed. It kind of neutralizes them so to speak. Also swaddling with a T-shirt and tucking in at the neck around the back.

6 of the sale ducks. Planning to post them tomorrow. Would like to move one more Swedish into the pen, I'm just really torn between the last 3 (and 1 keeper that definitely isn't going anywhere).

I might also sell my keeper Rouen and possibly my normal Pekin too next spring. Jumbo is staying, but I'm working to lessen feed needs, amd I will fully admit these ducks eat a lot more than the same number of chickens

I think I may've misunderstood, I thought you already had a duck crossed with a swedish :)
Oh no, mine aren't even a year yet. I'm just trying to plan on what to expect with who I keep. If all 4 other breeds will make the same babies when crossed to my boy, then I feel more comfortable moving the rouen along than if all 4 made different looking ducks.

Plus I'll be selling hatching eggs hopefully, so it would be nice to be able to provide a guide of what will likely hatch from the pens since they all look similar eggwise
