While injured Gracie recuperates at grandma's, Nellie hangs out with my grandson, Kale. They both enjoyed a bit of sunshine this afternoon. We are SO ready for spring!

I'm so ready for spring too. What happened to the other hen?

We think a dog got in the yard ... killed one and we found Gracie in the compost with a huge bite wound on her back. Her bright eyes and obvious will to live just got to both of us, so my mom and I (mostly her) have been doctoring her and treating her with the help of a homeopath.

She actually laid an egg on my mom's floor just a couple days later, but the wound on her back is healing slowly and we don't want to put her back in my yard yet. Nellie just kind of misses her yard mates and comes running to hang out with whoever is around. She really took to Kale this afternoon, and they wandered around together for quite awhile.
