oh, very tough to sex. but a good choice!!

Yes, they grow on you.
Like Janet said they are like Lay's chips, bet you can't just have one.
And they are small so they don't take up much room.
hopefully I won't have to use the incubator to hatch once these grow up.
Will save on the electric bill.

sorry you missed it, not the greatest weather to be out in photographing a swap but it was fun.

i wanted to tell you that a woman brought some silkie roo's one she thought was a lavender but it had such a huge comb for such a young bird that i let it go.

oh wow, lavender

but yea if it was young and a very huge comb, hmmm could be trates.

thats what i thought, how would you breed that down. it was larger than my grown roo's and that bird was young. not sure how he could see over it or around it!

Well the swap today was probably the best yet. The raffle was awesome and I came home with a 50lb bag of crumbles for my finniky birds! I also was good today, sold the 6 I came with and came home with EMPTY cages! They wont be empty for long because I have birds here to move into them! haha...anyway, great job Greg on the last swap of the season for our area. Hopefully my birds will survive the winter to produce some chicks for the spring swaps! i keep thinking I should bring them back into my studio for the winter, but the dust is too much! but i am sure I will break down once the teens temps settle in for the nasy winter...dont even want to think about it!

you should do some reading. they have that chickens for dummies book. you shouldnt be taking those birds out from the cold into warm out to cold, they will never be able to adjust , if you dedide in the teens to bring them in your going to have to keep them in until summer.
you all with more experience really should be speaking up here , help your friend make the right choice for her birds she sure doesnt want to hear it from me.

Can you rig up something in the basement for them? It will be cool but not as cold as being outside.

I got a couple of these homemade rabbit hutches off craigslist last week. Set them up in the basement where they can dust away. I also don't have to worry about the water freezing, trudging thru snow to feed them and they'll be out of the wind too.

Great for me too. Easy access all winter. It's still 57 in the basement so they aren't freezing. By the time it cools off down there they will have feathered out so it won't be a problem. And they still won't be exposed to any wind or sudden cold spells.

if i had a basement i would be tempted. will have a spare room soon , my daughter is moving out

but that is still in our living quarters. then i think, we have raised them in the kitchen before but not long 2 weeks i think was the longest.
