Last Two/chicken Swaps Of The Season Nov14 Hooksett&plaistow Nh

Can you rig up something in the basement for them? It will be cool but not as cold as being outside.

I got a couple of these homemade rabbit hutches off craigslist last week. Set them up in the basement where they can dust away. I also don't have to worry about the water freezing, trudging thru snow to feed them and they'll be out of the wind too.

Okay, I was talking to somebody at one of the swaps about fudge. Can't remember which swap or who it was, but it was about eggnog fudge. I found the recipe while hunting through my recipe file if the person would like it. Also found pumpkin pecan fudge, eggnog cheesecake with cinnamon graham crust and marbled pumpkin cheesecake.

I do actually have 3 small portable tractors I could set up in my studio. The temp there stays at about 60 unless I put the pellet stove on when I am working down there. It is a cement floor so cleanup would be easy enough. I know about thermal shock and weather hardening, it is just that I dont want to end up going out to the coop and finding the poor seramas frozen solid..! I have been reading on line and finding info where people are saying they are fine if they are adults and they can take temps as low as 25 degrees. But what classifies them as adults?? At what age? I guess i just figure if I am cold, they are too. but then again my free range birds live in an uninusated dog house with a door and lots of cracks in it and they survive. The chickens i had 8 years ago did the same, it was funny watching them plow through the snow, making a "race Track" to use.

you should do some reading. they have that chickens for dummies book. you shouldnt be taking those birds out from the cold into warm out to cold, they will never be able to adjust , if you dedide in the teens to bring them in your going to have to keep them in until summer.
you all with more experience really should be speaking up here , help your friend make the right choice for her birds she sure doesnt want to hear it from me.

Oh Thanx Wendy. I never saw the Chickens for Dummies book, sounds interesting, can I borrow yours sometime?????

I hate plowing through the snow while lugging water.

Having the babies in the basement is easier for me.

You could plan on keeping them in this winter and out next year.

Well, if the temps go down really cold, I will most likeely bring them in, cheeper that running a cord and heat lamo out to the coop, and safer too! Then in the spring they will go out and get naturally acclimated with the passing of the seasons!!
