Maples have light yellow or green pollen. The red might be snow drops.

On another note, I got a visit from the bee inspector last night. We use to have bees until my reaction to bee stings kept getting worse. He was there to inspect them. So we got to talking and I told him I would love to bee hives on my property but if someone else took care of them. He said he would see what he could do. 5 minutes later he was knocking on my door again. He had found someone close by that couldn't keep their bee hives on their property and would love to put them on ours!!!!! Apparently a neighbor or relative is deathly afraid of bees.

What was really neat was he had a dog that was trained to detect foulbrood. He wouldn't even have to open the hive.

Nice ~ here in PA they cut funding to our inspection program and we rarely get inspected which is bad.

Today we checked the 6 hives here at the house that made it through the winter. Found queens in 4 out of 6, and eggs in all 6 ~ all queens are laying well. They were bringing in loads of green pollen, most likely from the maples which are blooming now.

Looking forward to starting a hive this year. Have a couple of friends guiding me. Have a feeler out looking for a swarm come May. Pretty excited about it!

Hi there. My bees are coming Friday (excited, a little nervous, excited again!) I need to make sugar syrup, can I make it today and have it be ok for Friday? Or is it necessary to make it the day you put it in the feeder?
