From Half dozen purchased I hatched 6 of the seven she sent. Well that's not quite true since the hatching date conflicted with a trip out of state my new friend Chickee actually completed the hatch for me. Chicks are 2 weeks now and doing fabulously.

Huge thanks to Nancy and Candy. Both of these ladies were invaluable to me.

See the two chicks on top. They are not yellow all over their heads. The one on the bottom is and feathered in all white.



Here is a white pullet I hatched from my lavs. I don't have a picture of Lav Chicks as they are feathering in. Maybe someone else can help with a picture. The feathers should be all uniform in color, no darker or lighter feathers.

Every strain has different progressions with the lavenders. I have Orps that hatch pure white, I have to look at their feather quills to see if they are black or white to determine if they are a lavender or a pure white Orp. I did not cross whites into them and they do not produce pure whites from the lavenders but I hatch lavenders and whites at the same time so have to be carefull not to dump a lavender with black legs by mistake as a white with black legs since they are Orps. There are lavender strains that are very dark colored also in other peoples breeding strains.

It must be the lighting in regards to my picture - they are definitely not white! Still learning how to take good pictures of fast moving chicks

I think this got lost in the shuffle - I was looking back to find information on feather quality. Does anyone have pictures of poor quality feathers? Juvies and/or adults - I would love a reference! And, is it best to wait until they get their adult feathers in to judge quality? Thanks!

You'll see the poor quality feathers soon enough with lavs from unimproved lines of constant lav x lav breedings. When you start with culls to begin with and don't even attempt to improve them....

You might want to put an order in now for some quality blacks- you're going to need them.

Dak posted pictures of two quality hens/pullets just lately. That should give you an idea what they should look like, if they are not like that and roughly looking feathers you will need improvements. Same with the male's tails they will be very rough looking and stringy like if they have the K factor.
