I’ve started a project pen to create blue egg laying Easter Eggers that are non black feathered, ideally Lavender and Blue combined.

I have some lovely lavender and icy blue birds growing out now that I plan to do the next gen with come Spring ‘26.

I hatched this boy that I “think” is a Golden Duckwing but would love confirmation and if there’s any other identifiable genes in him based on his color pattern and parents genetics.
I’m hoping to use him to infuse black into the line as a counter measure for the Lavender shredder gene.

Dad is a Lavender Ameraucana.
Moms are Lav Am x Cream Legbar (supposedly, but not my breeding- they look blue to me, not sure how that’s possible from the parents but…🤷🏼‍♀️)

I seriously love this guys looks and would love to make more of him! No idea what the pullet version of him would look like…?

Is he really a Golden Duckwing split to Lav?
What else does he have?
What could I expect to see if I put him with his sisters?

Would love any thoughts, suggestions, input….! 😊

He’s laced, so not a pure gold duckwing. His parentage definitely doesn’t make sense with his coloration, are you completely sure of parentage?

Oh that’s lacing? That is very interesting. I figure he got what appeared to me to be duckwing from the Legbar half of his momma but nobody has lacing. 🤷🏼‍♀️

The only other blue egg laying hens in that breeding pen were Black and Lavender Ameraucana.

What about roosters? Even if the rooster wasn’t in the pen, hens can retain sperm for up to 1-2 months

He's golden Duckwing laced.

I have a Gold Duckwing Laced rooster, but your boy's pattern is better.

He's not an Easter Egger though.

Well, because I had that challenge before 🤪lol....with this round of hatching I’d put all the hens in a separate pen till all eggs were no longer fertilized, then I put them in with a single roo- not my breeding but a truly gorgeous Lavender Ameraucana from a reputable breeder so I thought I was good....but anything is possible.

Does the edging that is on blue feathers count as lacing?

Otherwise I don’t have a “laced” breed in my flock, but I didn’t realize this boy had lacing 😂...I’ll go back and look at my log and see what other cockerels I had at the time.

How fun is that?! A Golden Laced Duckwing...that’s really exciting to me.
It’s great to see the color Gold in your boy compared to Golden, thanks for sharing!

And I didn’t realize the markings on the chest were lacing, I thought it was leakage. I have 2 brothers (or maybe half brothers) to this boy- one is black with gold hackles and saddle and the other is blue with gold hackles/saddle and some rust coming in on the wings—I’m going to go see if there’s any lacing on their chests...

Then to figure out what this boys genes will do when I breed him. 😁
