Thanks! We didnt even lav orps were out there untill we saw these little guys! Ive been reading as much as i can about them and just hope they are decent quality when they are grown! Either way we will be taking them back to the best black orp i can get my hands on.

I have to return the 2 Black Orpington chicks because it turns out that they are mixes!!! Grrrrrrr. I have grown attached to these little guys already. I was starting to wonder if they were pure because they were starting to get white dots on them. The person told us that her black orpington chicks are probably all mixes so we decided that we are going to get 2 Blue Orpington chicks from her. Bummer!

Are you talking about mottling? The white dots are really lack of pigment in the feather so appears white just like the mottled black orpingtons or speckled sussex have. I believe that it is a recessive gene so both parents need copies. Some of the earlier American Orpingtons did have a mottling gene. If you look on the Project Lavender Orpington Thread you can see some information posted about it. I have a female black orpington who is split for lavender that has that gene. She only has a few mottled spots but the male I had (her brother) did have several (fox got him grrr) anyhow, if it is mottling you might want to keep them lol, if you like that look.

The person that I got them from said her speckled sussex got in the pen that the Black Orpingtons were in... she was not concerned about it because she thought that the hen was to old to lay... well she was wrong! She took a look at her Black Orpington chicks again and she noticed that all of the chicks were looking like mine! Here are what my chicks look like... Take a look for yourself...

Do they look like mixes to you? This is actually only pictures of the one chick... Im showing you these ones because he has a lot of white dots on him! The other only has a few and they are kinda brown... maybe its because hers are dirty...

Has anyone crossed a lavender roo back to a buff hen. Just curious. I lost my buff roo and have an extra lavender roo. I also have a black lanshan roo. Any thoughts?
