Lavender Orpington Thread

Pics
I have 6 left! I sold 8 yesterday. They go very quickly.
I just set 14 more LO eggs minutes ago. wish me luck.
Where are you located? I don't ship chicks but I travel a lot and don't mind making detours to give the babies new homes.

I am in WA State, so I think that is a pretty long trip! :)

Those chicks are adorable!!!

We hatched 2 LavOrps & 2 Black Orps I tried wing sexing & it didn't work at all. Both lavenders looked male (one turned out female) & the black orps looked like one of each sex (both turned out female). I have to say that I'm thankful for all the females, but it didn't work with the line of Orpingtons I purchased.

Did anyone else try wing feather sexing?
Does it usually work on Orpingtons?

I can normally tell if they are hen or rooster, when you can easily see how much bigger or smaller the comb and waddle are! Although strangely this time I was able to say what their gender was when they were four days old! All I did was look at the eye color and see how quickly the feathers were growing in! About the eye color... All I did was see if any of their eyes were more of a blue or a brown, If its blue then its probably a boy, if it brown then its probably a girl! And if you want to look at their feathers all you do is look and see whose feathers are growing quicker, If the feathers are growing quicker then its probably a girl! But sometimes these ways aren't very accurate. If you give me some better pictures of each individual chick then I can try guessing what they are for you. And nice to know that your friend lives in Port Orchard! Does your friend have chickens too???
t what age do you usually start noticing a sufferance in the combs? I have some chicks 2 weeks old some 1 week old and a new batch due out Thursday.

Mine are 3 weeks old and I took these pics yesterday. I'm so worried they are both Roos. But one of the have pretty big feet compared to the other ones.

This is the same one that's on the right in the above picture. It's feet are bigger.

This is the one on the left that I'm hoping is a pullet.

Here are mine when they were around 3 weeks. 1 is a female; 2 is a male. The male had a larger comb from the start. (Both had big feet & thick legs) The female got her feathers a little faster down the back while the male had shafts.

Thank you, that helps, if I can't have 2 pullets then I will be happy with one of each but I really don't want 2 roos. Only time will tell. LOL
